So when it leaks, you have to go to the back of the basement and sweep the water to the front to the drain.

I've tried to get Dad to cut a trench around the edge of the wall and let it come to the front of the basement, or put in a sump pump.

I figure this is the only place in the basement that has that "Hole" as the rest is fully carpeted. Except for the bathroom that shares a (The) wall with the furnace room.

In a way this might be a blessing. We have a neighbor, that one time it rained so hard that his basement actually buckled enough to raise up about three inches or so and busted! We helped him put in a second sump pump (in the same hole) and that finally took care of all the water.
