Being that I have got into doing leather as of late, I am going to make a sheath for my 511 when it arrives (as well as others that I have). I made a buddy a sheath for his father's knife he found and we both were pretty impressed. I am not sure if a standard carry, a cross carry, a scout carry (some know it as a the bush carry), etc. Any ideas? I may even do a bit of carving on it as I have done a few carvings on shooting bags.

Personally I am impressed with the Scout Carry. It keeps the knife out of the way yet readily accessible. The only thing with this carry is that if you have anything that covers the small of your back (say a waist belt for a pack or fanny bag0 it might get uncomfortable. Also the blade should ideally be carried edge up.

Well, you could make the leather sheath in the same style as a fold-over kydex, i.e. leave off any belt-loop and flare eyelets at strategic positions along the seam, thereby allowing for attachments that increase the variety of carry-styles - left/right-side as well as scout/high-ride/low-ride/dangler etc. If you make a sheath like that, I have a universal kydex extension you might like to try.

I scout carry daily with no problems, and various sized knives.
Skunk.... Why do you say that the needs to be carried edge up?

Good ideas guys. I am penciling some thoughts tonight and may do a rough sketch tomorrow after practice.

Skunk.... Why do you say that the needs to be carried edge up? Actually I was saying that in reference to leather. Edge up will remove any chance of the edge cutting through the leather welting/sheath due to gravity pulling the edge down toward the stitching.

I have a 511 I ordered a kydex sheath. I would love to see some leather options. I used to carry my 511 in a SpecOps combat master, but since the Mudd Mutts came in, I switched the 511 to one of their leather sheaths - PERFECT! (especially since i tapered the sids of the guard on my 511) It fits those leather pouch sheaths MUCH better than the Mudd Mutts do. I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow after I've finished modifying one of my Mudd Mutts (removing the metal-guard for an enlarged choil like a Bog Dog)
