Instead of sleeping, I am on the computer.
When I am done here, I'm gonna watch 'Serenity' again, and chop up some firewood with my scrappers.
If I wake my wife up, she'll kill me.
That's what is happening here.

it says 12:11. Apparently you're right next door. I was thinkin about NJ knife carry laws before i checked the forums. There really arent any but this is sheep country so cops don't like em. would you carry your scrapper? what would you tell a nj cop if he stopped you and asked about it?

I'm up too, but then again, I always am up late at night. I don't usually go to bed until 5 am or so. I'm getting ready to start a movie in a few mintues. An evening with Kevin Smith 2. My friend Sean was in the first one if anyone saw it.

I'd carry as long as it's legal. If the cops have a problem, too bad. Tell them your exercising your rights as a free law-abiding citizen. They can't do anything as long as you don't break the law.

Yeah, really. [censored] the man. Besides, who wants to be walking around unarmed with all those sheep lurking about.

You should have a good story ready, though, just in case of a random questioning. It's not the most subtle blade. It could project that Michael Myers vibe. "Oh hello officer. Yeah, I'm just out looking for some firewood to chop with my new Scrapper 6".

AS long as you have a good reason, you are okay.
We were pulled over by state pigs one night, while my brother was carrying a rather large folder on his belt. When the state boy asked why he had it, he told him he used it at his bakery. that was good enough.

The other important thing is, don't do illegal things while carrying.

yeah i know, some cops don't know the law, though. you can ask some and they'll know you can carry anything as long as you have a reason. others will tell you it is illegal to carry any knife in nj. how was serenity? did i jack your thread?

Serenity rocks. One of our favorite movies. Seen it probably a dozen times, at this point. I just wish there was a cast commentary; the commentaries on the Firefly series DVD were very entertaining.

You are right about the cops here, all a bunch of idiots. They do tend to make up their own laws, which they can, since they have guns. Actually had one tell me that .44 mags were illegal once, when he saw mine at the range. Idiots.

Andy - I didn't realize that you are an "all nighter". I woke up at 4:30 because one of my dogs needed to go outside, and thought I would check the Yard.

Around my neck of the woods, the Police or Sheriff's Officers are pretty relaxed concerning knife carry. In fact, when I went to pick up my CCW permit I noticed the Sheriff had a fair sized folder on his belt, though it wasn't as large as my Cold Steel X2 Voyager. Tom

Well, I reviewed New Jersey's knife laws, and they are kinda iffy in their interpretation. Indiana’s laws are much similar. Here’s the sections that I mean:

2C:39-3 Prohibited Weapons and Devices...

e. Certain weapons. Any person who knowingly has in his
possession any gravity knife, switchblade knife, dagger,
dirk, stiletto, billy, blackjack, metal knuckle, sandclub,
slingshot, cestus or similar leather band studded with
metal filings or razor blades imbedded in wood, ballistic
knife, without any explainable lawful purpose, is guilty
of a crime of the fourth degree.

2C:39-4. Possession of weapons for unlawful purposes...
d. Other weapons. Any person who has in his possession any
weapon, except a firearm, with a purpose to use it
unlawfully against the person or property of another is
guilty of a crime of the third degree.

2C:39-5. Unlawful Possession of Weapons... d. Other weapons.
Any person who knowingly has in his possession any other
weapon under circumstances not manifestly appropriate for
such lawful uses as it may have is guilty of a crime of
the fourth degree.

I would be concered that you might run into a cop that doesn’t know knife terms (like the difference between a dagger or dirk) and would say that a Scrapper is a dagger. People that don’t know any better might call any non-folding knife a dagger. Another thing that sticks out is in NJ laws it sounds like intent is really important, so that’s probably why they question you so. It doesn’t sound like you need a “good reason”, just a reason that’s lawful. I think if you told them you carried it for protection you shouldn’t have a problem, because the law doesn’t say that you can’t carry for protection, just that you can’t be carrying with the intent to use it unlawfully against another’s person or property.

Yeah, I love Jay and Silent Bob. That’s pretty cool that you got to meet him. #2 just came out. It’s filmed in Canada and London. Clerks 2 just came out too, and I saw it a few days ago. Next time you watch #1, watch for the guy in the derby hat that asks one of the questions. That’s my friend Sean. I’ve known him since he was like 12.

Yeah, it’s the only time there’s some quiet around here. Mom’s usually using the computer in the morning, so that’s my time to get a chance on the comp is evenings/nights.

Yeah, here too. I keep tellin’ you guys to move to Indiana! We have some of the best knife/gun laws in the country! Only thing you can’t have is switchblades and ninja stars. Other than than, you can carry any size/type of knife or sword, openly or concealed. No questions why, and you don’t need a reason. And we’re the only state in the country that you can get a lifetime gun carry permit. It’s like $150, and good for life as long as you keep a clean record. Easy to get a carry permit too, don’t have to take any tests or prove proficiency or anything. All you need is a clean record, and fill out the forms. And you can carry a handgun open or concealed when you have a permit too, your choice.

It sure is different from one state to another. I lived in Boston for a while, and unless you were a cop, or an officer in the Military you could not get a permit to carry a swiss army knife, let alone a gun. Period. You need a permit to possess a gun in your home, and a separate to carry in Mass. Yup, permission to exercise your 2nd amend. rights. But in Boston proper, no way no how. Can't get a permit to even own one through any means. Period.

Then I moved to Montana, where a sheriff told me there definition of concealed was under a shirt or coat, i.e. concealed by clothing. You could have any size gun anywhere in you car, in or out of view. You could have it in a purse. Nothing but under clothing was considered "concealed". You could carry it on your person in plain site, which a lot of people did. They didn't even care about knives. There were 100,000 in Missoula, Mt, and the paper reported anually on the number of carry concealed (under clothes) permits issued. It's averaged around %45 percent of adults in town had a permit. Guess how much violent crime happened in Missoula? I lived there 6 years and never heard of anyone getting shot, or little to nothing about violent crimes.

How much violent crime do you think happened in Boston? Put it this way. I wouldn't walk down the street in broad daylight, let alone at night without my Glock 23, mace, and a boot dagger.
