There is a local PD up in the mountains near here that has a radio and telephone in the bathroom, because they only work one dispatcher at a time and they have no way for relief so the dispatcher can hit the head.

But in general, one dispatcher at a time is a very bad practice.

Actually, from a safety standpoint, there should be at least two people on site at all times.  I agree. And knowing the job like I do, let me just say that only having one person on duty is a liability, and the county could very well end up paying dearly if someone ever suffers a loss because of that. Especially in today's lawsuit happy world. Money and politics.... Everything is well until something happens.

We currently have 2 at the sheriff's office and two or three at the EMS dispatch at any given time.

When we get in the new center, we'll have 6 full time dispatchers, two call takers and then a supervisor.
