Y'all probably already saw this, but wanted to post it here out of enthusiasm: roenman is selling it in the BF exchange (removed link in case it violated the rules, but he has more pics on the thread) and he says: I was told this was made for one of the helicopter evacuation units. The serrations will take care of any type belt or strap. Any other Mudd Mutt variants like this out there?

I haven't seen any others like it; Bill is a good guy whom I have bought from before.

Interesting variant. I'd rather have a good sharp plain edge anyday to serrations though myself but that's just me...

I'm not much on serrations either. I much prefer a good sharp plain blade.

That blade would be great for their original intended purpose!

I think most knives that have a combination serrated and plain edge do it backwards The serrations should be at the tip while the plain edge should be at the handle

I believe the serrations in the back are more conducive to cutting straps and webbing, something chopper crews have to do sometimes.

I was a helicopter crew chief, and I never felt like I needed a Sus Scrofa or serrations.

I know Tom I was just speaking in terms of generalization If you have the plain edge near the handle, you don't lose the ability to do finer work, like feather sticks and the tip serrations still allow for power cuts like cutting rope

Agreed If you ever get the chance to try a knife like this, give it ago
I don't like serrations on a knife and I regret buying my military with serrations
However if I had to have a knife with serrations and I was given the choice, it would be plain edge at the handle
Of course you might try it or have tried it and disagree That is the reason we have more than one style of knives

For sure. I really don't like serrations, but I understand the need for them on some knives dependant upon use.
