Arch, I have a BWM, and I almost chose it over the 1311, but the extra three inches made me choose the 1311. BUT I could change my mind and not feel hindered at all. I have a Busse Combat Wardog Hack made of Infi, but haven't been able to work up anything for an Infi S5. But if I do.....

Now don't even mention folders. If you do Rich (RN) will drive himself crazy, the poor little liberal.

Haha, actually I think that Rich could give us some really good insights into a "Woods" folder. I just like to make fun of him.

Almost impossible to decide, but I really like:
tan/camo 9-11 Battle Pappy Bowie custom made by for me by Justin Gingrich Tom, You're clearly a big ol' blade kind of guy! Nothing small or medium on your list of favorite knives? Do you just appreciate a larger blade or is there some JYD#1 wisdom to share? I use to say, a lot, there are many things a small blade cannot do that a large blade can, but few things a small blade can do that a large blade cannot. However, after getting out and doing stuff other than feeding a camp fire I've found smaller blades to be more generally user friendly. Gary, I DO like big knives! Even my EDC folder...the C.S. XL-2 Voyager has a 6" blade! I guess I have been hooked on large knives, particularly Bowies, since I was a youngster watching Jim Bowie on television.

While I do have some TEOTWAWKI knives, these are the ones I use most often when heading out bush: SYKCO 511 Fallkniven S1 (custom G10 handles) Fallkniven F1 (custom G10 handles) Fallkniven S1 (micarta handles)

Nighthawk, I always wanted to try a Fallkniven, but swore to foresake all others when I wed Busse. (Fallkniven do still appeal to me greatly).
Tom, I too like large knives in the 9-12" range. If nothing else they really boost morale when things get rough. I've had occasion to experience early stage hypothermia (deep woods, raining/sleet, improperly equipped and dressed). This was many years ago, but if I remember correctly I was carrying either a USAF Survival Knife or a USMC Fighting Knife (Ontario version of the KBar). Anyway, I wasn't able to get a fire going and couldn't build a quick enough shelter. My hiking buddy and I sufferred through a MISERABLE night. Had I been carrying a large knife (or hatchet) I would have 45 degree fell a small conifer for an instant crawl under lean to.
I learned a lot on that weekend. That friend and I hiked every weekend for several years. A few lessons are easy to share:
1) NO COTTON clothing. 2) Carry at least 3 means of making fire. 3) If its sunny when you leave still bring a poncho (at minimum). 4) CARRY ENOUGH KNIFE! 5) Being hungry is annoying, being thirsty is dangerous.

The Fallknivens are great, especially custom jobs. It's a shame the blade blanks are no longer in production as they offer outstanding quality.
I have to mention that I have two RMDs in transit (fingers crossed for tomorrow) so my list might change when they arrive, and I'm starting to feel an itch for a 411 as well.

The RMD is my favorite knife from the Swamp and the 411 is tied with the Scrapper 5 as my favorite from the Yard.
I've found knives in the 5" range to be the most practical for outdoor stuff (short of extreme cases and extreme survival).

Nighthawk, If you haven't tried a mudder gripped ScrapYard you'll be in for a treat. I was never a big fan of the "Basic" style of Res-C found on the early releases and balance of the 11 series.
