I use the EdgePro and a belt grinder depending on the knife.

I use the Sharpmaker myself. I could probably get a knife sharper, but it's the easiest way to get a fairly good edge that I've found yet.

I had a wicked edge, couldn't get it to work for my life...purely operator error. Cheapo harbor freight belt grinder following Ban's instructions have worked the best for me.

I have a small belt sander. I would like to see these instructions where can I find them?

I have a variety of different stones. Old Arkansas stones my dad and grandfather had. Plus a set of Norton waterstones and strops. I like hand sharpening. smile

This is making me believe that we might want a moderator to manage a sticky on different sharpening systems that Yard Dogs like. --- smile

We have over 2,000 members, many with their own ideas. I don't think this really warrants a sticky. wink

There was a great field sharpening thread in the past that I feel is worthy of a re-visit. What reliable sharpening gear would you recommend to have in the sticks? I would like a durable and long-lasting solution to keep in my sheath. I mean ceramic rods are awesome but they are just so fragile so ceramic is OUT.

Skunk suggested a DMT Diafold Coarse/Extra Coarse coupled with an EZE-Lap Model M. I was going to go this route but I have read that the DMT Diafolds don't last like they used to. Can anyone here confirm this? Is there a longer lasting option, like some Arkansas stones?

I have a DMT credit card-sized "fine" sharpener that I carry sometimes. I don't see the need for a coarse stone unless you will be in the sticks for a long time. wink
