Just had my Cardio Rehab eval today. It went well. Most strenuous thing 8 had to do was walk for 6 minutes. I did it at 2.5mph and was still walking well afterward, no staggering around.

I might have to check out a martial arts store about 30 miles away about the waxwood. I checked with an AI and it said the staff might bend to much if I had to put my full weight in it causing me to possibly fall.

I found a possible source for a black locust staff that sound like it may be good and he also has Osage Orange staffs which might be a possibility although it is quite a bit heavier.

Cold Steel used to sell white waxwood staffs that were about 6 feet long, and you could cut it to your desired length. I believe they were considered a martial arts type weapon. They are pretty light weight but very strong.

Grrr. Well it looks as if I’m gonna need to do any kind of “distance” walking it’s gonna need to be with a stick, at least for the remainder of the year (if not forever). Both my heart dr and spinal dr concours that I should be using a stick as not so much as a walking aid but as a precaution to keep from falling when my back decides to try and kill me with the worse pain I've ever felt.

I have regular canes but have found I do much better with a longer hiking staff length of 54-60 inches long. This allows me to grab the stick and remain fully upright until the pain passes (usually 10-30 seconds). I also have a nice Blackthorn staff, think a long Shillelagh. But my source is no longer able to ship sticks that are more than 44 inches long and I need one at least 10 inches longer than that. I’ve tried looking after every “lead” for them and they are always way too short.
Then I stumbled upon Black Locust as a viable substitute. It has many of the qualities of the blackthorn and MIGHT be easier to source here. It will all depend on the weight of a stick for the size I listed above and how capable it would be in keeping me upright if I had to suddenly bear my weight on it to keep from falling down.

Anyone have other good suggestions? I don’t want to go over about a pound and a half of weight for the stick.

The weather cooperated today. I don't think it broke 80 here. And the smoke from wildfires wasn't noticeable.

I got my chores done early. It was nice enough, I set up a hammock, grabbed a book, and spent some quality time in the shade of a big tree.

At our age and physicality, along with a lack of real world “combat” experience, I’ve been concentrating more on the “reactive” side of the house. I’ve not ignored the “food and water” aspects, as we have “a bit” put back.

But I’m concentrating more on the ability to deny the “purge supporters” as much as possible. Face facts, how much can a 72 year old man and 70 year old woman in Failing health actually do to stop an “invasion” of our home. Not really that much in the overall scheme of things. BUT for every one we can stop means one less others have to contend with. Just my personal take on things if it all goes south.

Plan to stay below the radar but have the ability to deliver a scorched earth response as much as possible, so you can maintain what you’ve got as long as possible.

Yesterday was nice and cool so I got the mowing done. The heat returns today and next week gets even hotter. Watering the plants later and a shot of fertilizer ; tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers growing nicely.

I picked up a 55 gallon food safe water drum and ordered a rotary pump and a roller cage. The city's water supply has been spotty at best. We have had 3 interruptions in service since Tuesday. I think we got caught up in the cyber attack on water systems.

I'm just going to set it in my garage and fill it as a precaution.

Times are definately getting interesting.
