All the "experts" say that if you are attacked by a black bear - FIGHT BACK. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> If you try to "play dead" or curl up into a ball, you just make it easier for it to eat you. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> Chances are, the dog would only distract it for a few moments. And remember, black bears are excellent climbers. I have read where a couple of backpacking type authors have defended themselves from black bears by smacking them in the snout with a good stiff branch.
