If you are going to be moving fast with a lot of weight, that makes a huge difference too becuase you can generate so much heat. The Patagonia R series (R2 I think) is similar to fleece, but like fine fur. Its really warm when you are still or have a windproof layer over it, but it lets the air right through when you are moving. It has a really wide comfort range.
