The most reliable / durable magazine on the market is a ComBloc steel AK47/AKM mag. These will not takes those. They only work with plastic magazines. I've ready 9 or so reports of people complaining about the inability to use a bomb-proof $10 steel mag.

Also, I have owned several Sig556 in 5.56x45. The earlier guns had problems that required a trip back to the factory.

Reports of problems have died down, but if you end up with a Sig556 you'll need to thoroughly test it before you trust your life to it. I'd say 2,000 rounds would be a good "vet'g".

Lastly, 7.62x39mm is a great round. However, for SHTF you're more likely to have access to 5.56x45mm or 7.62x51mm. Our LE and .MIL all use 5.56x45. Our .MIL heavy use 7.62x51mm.
