It would really be nice to have a range that close. I would probably do more shooting if I had something that close. Used to (When I was a Kid,and YES we did have "Modern" firearms back then) we could shoot right behind the house my Folks sold last year. NOT ANY MORE.

I would rather shoot a 1911 style than any other handgun. BUT the older I get the more I appreciate the simpler manual of arms of the glock/sig, et al guns.

I COULD carry a Walther ppk .380 or S&W model 60-10 (5 shot SS 357mag with 3 inch barrel or a few others.

Oh and I should say that 45K rounds through a 45acp barrel sounded like A LOT to me. But what do I know.

My philosophy has changed many times over the years, but it's been settled in one direction for the last four or five:
Shrink my collection to less "manual of arms" and only have a two copies on a single top-of-the-line gun. The days of 5 copies of a single design are over.
My collection is settling out to be:
(2) Ruger Mk3
(2) Ruger 10/22 Stainless Carbine with Leupold Scopes
(2) Ruger 10/22 Stainless Takedown with Tech Sights
(2) Ruger LCP
(2) Glock 19
(2) Glock 26
(2) S&W Shield 9
(2) 1911 (Les Baer Stainless Custom Carry and Ed Brown Executive Elite)
(2) HK 45Acp
(2) FN Scar-16 with ACOG
(2) FN Scar-17 with ACOG
(2) Springfield Armory SAR-48
(2) Benelli M1 Super 90
Why two? One in use and one in reserve. The reserve is tested and placed in tr safe but available for duty should the primary go down. The primary gets replaced or repaired as necessary. If the primary wears out - a new replacement is bought / tested and becomes the reserve. Gear rotation.
I'm getting close to being down to this collection. I have (3) Rem 870, a couple of ARs, (2) Marlin 22WMR, (1) LCP, (1) Ruger Mk3, several 10/22, and (1) Scar to sell and I'll have my perfect collection. REAL nice battery Gary.

Here is what I use my choices for:
Ruger Mk3 - cheap plinking, warm up, smallest small-game pack gun
Ruger LCP - lightest clothes / deepest concealment CCW
Glock 19 - general purpose / EOTW
Glock 26 - EDC
S&W Shield 9 - preferred option for deep concealment (over LCP) when allowed by attire.
HK 45Acp - house gun / EOTW
1911 - preferred carry gun (I can pretty much guareentee where each round is going to land which lowers my chance of landing in a courtroom)
10/22 Carbine with Leupold - small game, plinking, farm varmint control
10/22 Takedown with Tech Sights - pack rifle / EOTW game getter
FN Scar 16 with ACOG - wife's all purpose
FN Scar 17 with ACOG - my all purpose
Springfield SAR-48 FAL - my Mad Max scenario gun
Benelli M1 - home and farm defense, hunting

I've always wanted an SAR-48. But alas, marriage happened. Oh and I might say, it was a FANTASTIC tradeoff.

Oh hey Gary, any suggestions on what I should do to my Glock 19 (besides a set of sights)? I still think I am going to go for a set of (What used to be called) Ashley Express sight.

If I was going to add anything to my list it would be:
(2) Colt 6529 [AR-15A2 Government Carbines with 16" Lightweight Barrels and Fixed A2 Carry Handles].
I'm struggling with my decision to sell these two, because IM(not so)HO they are EVERYTHING an AR should be:
SUPER LIGHT (5.8 pounds)
SUPER ACCURATE (best sights ever placed on a military rifle ... I do slightly prefer the A1 for durability)
SUPER COMPACT (no rails, etc to clutter up a KISS carbine)
SUPER ACCURATE
These simply make uber handy KISS carbines. I ran 250rds thru one of my two 6520 (not 6920), and 200 each thru my two Scar 16 last weekend. The little Colt was just a joy compared to the 10 pound (once scope / accessories are mounted) FN.

When I say "ran" this is literal. For me shooting is a zero check on the bench and then I'm up running drills. This includes lugging the gun up and down hills every few mags (200 yards round trip). This breaks the "hang every piece of cool-guy crap mentality quickly when it's 98F with 95% humidity.

Some of the "Cool Stuff" is Cool. But for a It's gotta work all the time every time, simpler is usually better.

Less is more when you actually start vetting accessories.
All that is needed on a fighting carbine:
A1) The most durable fixed sights available (like the LMT SOPMOD fixed rear)
Or
A2) The most durable / kiss low power (or variable) optic (like an ACOG or Nightforce 1-4) combined with the most durable fold down front and rear BUIS (like Troy Battlesights). NOTE: front food down is manditory with low power optics - you will see a fixed front sight thru your scope and this is a big detriment to getting fast)
B) The best white light you can buy (like Surefire Scout)
C) The best two point sling you can buy (like Vickers)
That's it.
My wife likes a VFG because it helps offset her limited upper body strength. I like them as a hand stop (indexes weak hand in same place without thinking about it) and as a control / retention assist. They are not, however, mandatory.
