I lean towards both Browning and .308 myself but I know someone that loves his Tikka. I don't think you could go wrong with either one. .270 seems to be more popular for whitetail in my area.

I may be wrong (haven't really been into guns for quite a while) but the .270 might be faster and flatter shooting. Those two factors might negate the advantage the 308 has.

Yep, .270 win is just a couple hundred fps slower than 7mm rem mag! Better ballistic coefficient than .308, too.

I want to get a .308 but Tikka doesnt make a short action so I could get a Tikka .308 but it would have a longer action. Not the biggest deal but it sort of takes away part of the reason to get a .308 imo. The Tikka would be a couple hundred less, which would cover most of my scope cost. Oh decisions, decisions.

Haven't heard of the 338 express. Then again I hadn't heard of the 300BO until about three months ago.

Marlin round. Suppose to shoot like a 30-06 from their matching named rifle.

Marlin had some trouble with the manufacturing and stopped producing the rifle for the last couple years. My dream hunting rifle if they ever get it right.
