As the title said
I have watched and read some reviews on the Biolite stove
Do any of you dogs have any personal experience with one

Don't know anything about them except for what I've seen/read. But I do know that fan augmented stoves do a lot better as far as burning/ability to get a HOT fire.

Ever since I laid eyes on the folding pocket stove I've liked the idea and have tried a few types out including a homemade converted coffee can model they all worked decent. I checked out the one in the link at REI and it's supposed to be pretty slick with the fan and I can see it working better because of it. The plastic looking fan/charger cover mounted on the housing concerns me but I'm sure well tested. My only thing is when it's raining and your cold, wet, and worn out the toughest part of lighting an MSR is screwing on the fuel can.

Trying to light a lighter when in the early stages of hypothermia is a real treat
I know from experience

Quoted for truth and experience.

Having a road flare in your ruck is a good way to get a fire going when your motor skills and mental agility have started to slow. Pop the cap, scratch = instant fire. The larger size of all involved makes those uncooperative fingers a little more tolerable.

GREAT advise Gary. Never thought of that before. But wouldn't they get suspicious what with the flare for starting fires and the dynamite for fishing? wink

Mine was from getting caught in a canoe on a lake that I had no business being on

To this day I don't know how I managed to make the kindling and build the fire
I was extremely lucky that I knew of the old logging office trailer, it had been abandoned in the 1960's and was only a part roof and bits and pieces of walls
However it gave protection from the rain and most of the wind

I was 16 at the time and neither my friend or I smoked
But both our dad's drummed into our heads the importance of a fire kit when outdoors

What was planned to be a short trip across the lake and back, was changed by unexpected rain and wind

We were to stubborn to head the warning signs and almost paid the price
