Think I'll go with an 18" when the time comes. Seems to be a good compromise between velocity and portability. Heavy fluted 1:8 twist stainless midlength with a 15" thin quad or combo rail and a nickel boron or melonited bcg. No sense wasting weight on a rail for a gun I'll be heaving around for half a mile.

I have a 16" M4 profile upper with a 15" quad from Hardened Arms that seems to shoot well. It's set up as a bug out or home defense gun with a Strikefire and a Bumpfire Stock with a competition muzzle brake (more for fun than practicality, I guess grin ). Stays on target fairly well at short range when shooting 2-5 round bursts. Maybe I should sell that set up and buy my upper and be done with it. 223, 300 BLK, 6.5 Grendel, 458 SOCOM...now I just need a 7.62x39 and a 6.8 SPC to complete the collection grin

Huh I have had nothing but good. Perhaps over torquing the action screws?

Maybe, but I kinda doubt it. Worth checking into. I've heard similar stories elsewhere, with folks noting that you just need to glass bed them and be done with it. Not sure I have the time or injinuity to do that....

So, informal poll: any one ever use a bumpfire or slidefire stock (fess up, you know you did). Aside from the thrill of throwing 10-30 rounds downrange faster than you can say Mississippi, is there any real life application outside of fun?

My thinking is/was using as a bug out gun with a Strikefire on top. Since I cannot run fast, in an emergency evacuation, I was thinking I could at least lay down suppressive fire to allow others to run a little further...assuming I can work it right. It is DANG hard to keep just the right force on the verticle grip to keep it rattling along.

Since it does not need to be run fulltilt it could also be used for hunting or more conventional firefight situations (assuming there are more conventional fights).

Alternatively, we used it at the family reunion and had fun with it. Now I could just move it along--either the stock, the lower, or the whole rifle setup. Not sure my oldest would ever forgive me though...

I have used a friend's bumpfire a time or two and have fired quite a few full auto weapons. They are fun to use especially if someone else is supplying the ammo. But I cannot envision a present day scenario, for me, where the bumpfire would be a clear advantage to use over a semi-auto. The high rate of fire would require the carrying of a large amount of magazines. I value accurate shot placement over volume of fire. The mechanism may or may not work the way it is intended. Trying to operate the bumpfire mode in a stressful situation would not work for me. And I cannot afford the ammunition that would be needed to train effectively. grin So, in my situation, simpler is better and I would not use one.

Loaded question (pun not intended). There's really only one correct answer from a practical standpoint....now from the FUN standpoint.....

Whew! Well, looking at a DIFFERENT rifle now and decided to put my 16" Grendel up on the Forum to fund it. Just got the Grendel and now, time to let it fly. I'll send it onto Gunbroker tomorrow if I can take some better pics after work. Missed my shot (so to speak) thanks to some bumbling at the pharmacy. Oh well, if I can't sell it shortly, I'll keep it and be very satisfied smile

I am hoping to pick up a G-43 next week. I'm hoping to get in on a decent deal at one of the local shops. Less than $360 isn't too shabby.
