Something that I have been worried about on all my sr-101 blades is chipping. And again today chopping some camelthorn wood my 1111 chipped, both my regulator and 911 had the same results. All three knives have a 17dps edge angle with a 25dps micro bevel. I feel that the knives should be able to handle this but they just can't. Any input from you guys?

I had some chips on a 1311 on some elm and hackberry but the 1111 didn't blink. I had it set at 20 degrees per side, no micro bevel.

My 1311 is my most used knife for Yardwork and it has a few chips that size. All the rest of my user Scraps and Swamps are fine though. I have Brutalized my HRLM and it is clean. All my Bussekin have their factory edges though, I can sharpen, but haven't reprofiled anything yet

Sad to hear. I have beat my Regulator bad and have tried to destroy the tip but nothing happened. I have battoned with it and its still clean...

Say what you will, but I think there was something about the dif heat treat that the newer blades can't touch.

I've had the same results with my Chopweiller. Took me two years abusing it before it lost its shaving edge. It laughs at all my other blades.

I have seen this exact same conversation on Facebook and other forums.
My 911 has chopped, battoned, been thrown and much more and it factory sharp over 2 years later. I haven't used my 1311 set but I need to. I don't think the SR101 performs the same as the old yard SR77 or infi. Also I think the convex edge seems to be the ticket for tough work.

I'm just a little frustrated because it does'nt seem to have enough edge stability/toughness for lower edge angles. I will do more testing and see what happens.

Test away. Worse comes to worse PM Renee and she can help you out if you need a warranty claim.

I thickened the edge on the regulator a bit and it seems to be stable. Chopped into a hard knot about 20 times. With a slight edge bend. Quickly fixed. Seems ok.

Guys, it's not a question of how well your XXX SR-101 knife holds up if it's got factory edge geometry when the OP is talking specifically to lower edge angles.

What needs to be asked is how was the edge sharpened…. i.e. power tools?

Also…. are you sure it is actually at 17 dps and not lower?
