VEPRs have a following. I have no personal experience with them.

Rich, are Mini-30s legal in CT? They're available in stainless and take detachable mags. You aren't going to win an accuracy contest, but the new hammer forged barrel version is miles ahead of the Mini of old.

I have a new issue Mini-14 tactical and am very fond of it. I'd keep it if it did NOT have a threaded muzzle (for times when I'm traveling to anti-gun states). As it is, it has a threaded barrel so it'll eventually get sold.

I might pick up a Mini-30 stainless without threads for the reason stated.

I think the Ruger is legal- I know the .223 version is. I have the idea the Saiga will choke down cheap ammo well and the Ruger won't- am I correct?

Well I shot a 3gun match 2 Sunday's ago. Out of 66 shooters many sponsored I got 11th. In my division (practical) I got 8th. Pretty cool. I'm not evening running race guns. Well I guess my stoeger M3K 3 gun edition with a + 8 Nordic extension is but my pistol is just a LAV g17 with 17rd mags and I'm running a carbine i built for fighting not racing.

I've only owned one Mini-30, and it was for a short time period. It came with aftermarket magazines, and they didn't function. As a result, I wasn't able to determine if the rifle was reliable.

I've read a lot of remarks about both the 14 and 30 being unreliable with cheap steel case ammo. I can neither confirm or deny these reports. I have an unfired Mini-14 Tactical that I was going to sell. I might run a few hundred rounds of Wolf through it as a test.

Saigas use to employ a proprietary magazine that didn't look as durable / reliable as standard AK mags.

Well done. I hear a lot of people talk about 3 gun, but I've never even watched a match.

It's lots of fun and super easy to get into. Certainly gets you very familiar with your guns and helps you find any weaknesses in them and yourself.

Nice GD!

I'm thinking about looking into some competition shooting get into next year sometime. Pretty much for the reasons you mentioned... It'll maybe give me a reason to get in some sort of shape and get a little more familiar with my firearms.
