This question has always bugged me..

How do folks sell/ship knives to International Buyers without getting Scammed?

I've sold things using Ebay/PayPal, but so far only to USA buyers.

Ok the few things I DO know are..

1. Credit Card Charge-Backs.
If Buyer doesn't have a PayPal "Confirmed" shipping address, then Seller is not covered by Ebay's "Seller Charge-back Protection".

2. USPS Money Orders.
I noticed many BF Exchange & Ebay sellers only accept USPS Money Orders. Ok that deals with the problem of Credit Card Chargebacks.. but doesn't really help with International Buyers.

3. When I was selling a Playstation 3 on Ebay.. my auctions kept ending with super high bids from international bidders (i finally disabled international bidding)
ie. Buyer from UK wins, then wants me to ship to Nigeria.
Not really sure how scam worked, but it was Obviously a Scam!

A few people on BF insist on 'verified' Paypal account payments.. (Good idea)

Not all Brits are dodgy by the way! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I'd like to buy a Busse Basic 9 but unless one of you guys is selling I never will- 'Trust no-one and keep your weapon handy'.. (I wouldn't PP someone $300/$400 I've never seen face to face or I don't know where they live..)

Hm...you could have them mail cash I guess. That wouldn't be very safe for them though.

Paul,
sorry didn't mean it that way.. who knows where that scammer lived.. could've been right here in my town.

As a Buyer, it was pretty easy matter for me.. just pick sellers with high/positive feedback, or buy from an established "brick & mortar's" website.

But as a (small time) Seller.. it was just a shock to become aware of all the scams, etc.

Tony, no problem- I was just tugging your chain! I couldn't resist reminding you which side of the pond I'm on..

Really the whole 'fan' e-commerce runs on trust. I agree about your feedback comments on sellers, but Ebay (for example) don't police their ratings according to a documentary on tv (BBC1- top end tv!) recently. Folks caught selling fakes as genuine had no action taken by Ebay... I'm not saying BF are as useless but I'd not risk lots of money or an expensive knife right now- unless I knew it was a well known forumite!!

Nigeria is currently the world capital for fraud..

I was a bit nervous about a package to Singapore, but it actually got to him faster than some packages here in the States. I have sent to Singapore, Australia, Sweden, South Africa, Poland, Canada....never had an issue. My first negative experiance is in process with the post office right now.....Actually 4 Swamps headed for our military boys......2 Camps and 2 bandicoots. The package was insured and the post office admitted fault as they never got my friend to sign for the package and just left it on the mailbox.....now they are investigating......wonder what that means. In the mean time my friend who I served with who is still in is now out of some knives for his platoon.

Oh yes they do! I know because they did it to me. I bought a LV purse from Goodwill to eBay, and I later found out it was fake. Fooled me though, it sure looked real. They threatened to ban me, even though I have no history of fraud, and 1500+ positive feedbacks. Another time I listed a Orange County Choppers (I believe it was) hat that I found at GW, and they told me it too was fake. I had no way of knowing though.

I got nailed the same way selling a LV purse for my mother. They told me it was fake. However, the problem was that the purse was 20 years old, but never used and stillin the box and was actually given to her by the company president. Had the documentation and everything. Personally I thought it was crap that E-bay gave all the power to LV.

Odd they hammered you guys but the caught out fraudsters over here received little action! I'm sure the program was a 'Panorama' episode (a news/current affairs show).
