Bestbuy co., one of our largest retail store is also having trouble. Their sells for the past months took a deep dive. If they go to the fed now and ask for 50billion will they get it? no, company should really REALLY exhuast everything that they can WITHIN the company first before they beg for $$. And sadly, begging for money with fed has become the trend. Again its not fair for taxpayers to have to pay for big companies mistakes.

I was watching the hearing with the fed and the big 3's CEOs. They don't even know if the 25 billion that they ask for is enough for them to live thru the next 4 months. It is how unprepared they are. I'm all for American made prodcuts. but the CEOs have gone too far in sucking all the money they can with the company and not even care about the company's future.

I'm with you on that KENKEN. If I screw up, no one is going to bail my butt out and no one should have to. We all pay for our own mistakes and get paid according to our own successes. What is agrivating is that we as taxpayers have no say how our taxes are being spent

One of the biggest problems with the Big Three is Americans. I hate to say it but the public is one of the biggest problems. Americans, in general, like and, more importantly, purchase large vehicles. How many years straight have all of the full sized pickup trucks been in the top 10, or for that matter, the top five in vehicle sales. Recent history shows that, in the USA, the top selling car is usually only number five or six on the top ten list. Not saying its right or not but the Big Three only, historically, produce small economical cars in order to meet the fleet fuel economy standards. Most of these vehicles make very little or no money for the companies but help to increase the fuel economy of the whole fleet to a point where the bigger, more expensive, and less fuel economical cars, trucks and SUVs can be sold.

I totally agree that the auto industry is horribly bloated and could be stream lined to a major extent. I also believe that they are currently in dire straights because of the recent oil price problems and then the economic downturn. They were making decent enough money (although this can be debated easily) before gas went up past $2 a gallon. Now, the very vehicles that made the vast majority of their money just cant be sold. The industry has been making strides to improve the economy of their fleet but I think its too little too late. When Saturn's big step to give an economical car is to import an Opal that only gets 30mpg highway they are certainly behind the times.

I guess in summary, if American's showed more demand for smaller, more economical, vehicles then the industry would have changed over more gradually and a longer time ago. As it stands the huge vehicles that were all the rage went out virtually overnight. Well, at least that is my take.

Oh, i guess I am more in favor of them using chapter 11 to restructure and re-negotiate their debt then to get repeated bailouts. If we do bail them out, I believe, the needed restructuring and re-negotiations will only be put off longer and be harder to do.

if this was true, we wouldn't have a problem.

American companies produce and sell these small cars overseas successfully. here, unfortunately, consumers flock to the imports.
