OK guys- I am ready to order some Moras. Where to buy- model # etc highly appreciated. I am thinking about a few to start and see what I think. Any help appreciated-Thanks
Here's the guy to buy Moras from
RagWeedForge . Ragnar is great to do business with and he will inspect everything before he sends it out.
I would suggest getting at least one Clipper. They have the most comfortable handles and are a little bit thinner than the others but they are wicked slicers! The carbon Steel version is model 840 and the stainless version is model 860. The other popular models are the 711 (carbon steel) and the 746(same knife in stainless). These also have very comfortable grips. If you like the 711 or 746 but have average to smallish hands then go for the 911 or 946, as they are the same knives but with a smaller grip.
The popular hard gripped Moras are the 510 and 511. The model 780 Triflex is also a hard gripper and is very popular as it is a very tough, differentially heat treated knife.
As for their bigger blades, the #S-04 is probably one of the most useful Moras around a hunting camp that I have ever owned. I have bought five of them now and they are always out whenever food prep is going on or something is being butchered.
If you are married be sure to order an 860 Clipper and an 893 for your wife. She will probably love them the first time she picks them up. The clippers are very comfortable to use when wet, and the little 893 is a thin bladed, tapered little knife that is awesome at things like peeling potatos and small food prep. Both of those models are stainless and will survive kitchen duty.
The Mora 2000 is their survival/outdoorsman type knife if you will, and for what it costs it probably has no equal as an all arounder.
I don't know how much you are looking to spend right off the bat, but I would recommend that you buy at least one Clipper(either the 840 or 860), a 780 Triflex, and either a 711, 746, 911, or 946. That way you will have a good reprsentation of blade widths and handle styles to see what you like.
Hope that helps a little.
