So last December right before Christmas my good wife agreed that it was ok for me to get a pistol. I did a lot of homework read a ton of stuff on line and at the magizine rack. I also had the chance to go to a local gun store and rented GLOCKs, Smith & Wesson Sigmas, Sigs 226 and 220, HK USPs, Kimber and Springfield 1911s, and Springfield XDs. It was a joy the first time I had shot several of thoes fine weapons, the 1911 was very nice, I see why they are so loved.

So I came down to the desision of getting the Springfield XD Service(4 inch) in 40 S&W, not too big not too small just right. Then I went to buy my pistol after calling around every gunstores within the greater Puget Sound area found the best price, with gun instock. My dad came with me and I had it in hand then picked up the XD in .45 ACP then the Tactical (5 inch) and after thinking about I asked my self WWJMBD? (What Would John Mosses Browning Do?) Well it would 5 inch and .45 ACP. No less. so I handed the .40 S&Ws and the 4 inchers back to the guy behind the counter and said, "let's do some paper work." Then after a 10 day waiting period (so I was not mad or angery ) I went to get my Gun it was a happy moment, no question about it.

I didn't get a chance to shoot it for about two weeks, it was Christmas time afterall, but I did constantly (and safely) hold it and cherish it.

I finnaly got to shoot it with my father-in-law in the snow at a little range in centeral Utah. It was great the loud bang, the shockwaves of our and others firearms, and the sweet smell of burnt gunpowder on my hands.

The 5 inch barrle helps tame the recoil, which isn't really that bad, and of course helps making a longer sight radius, the gun is a little bit on the heavy side, but I am a MAN I can handel it. It has a great trigger (I will admit my fathers's SIG P220 has a nicer trigger but it was over $800)

I am even a decent shot with it, I keep my groups reasonably sized but always low, still gotta work on that.

One of the great things about it is the fact that it is 13 + 1 capacity of all American .45 ACP that is (usualy) 230 grains just over half an ounce of lead EACH, 13+1 rounda of .45 ACP.....that should get most jobs done. But even with all this firepower the gun in handle-able, the grip is not too big even for smaller hands they say.

So I guess the point of this thread is to give a report and review of the Springfield XD Tactical in .45 ACP. and they are great. Anyways If you were thinking about getting an XD (Ted that's you) I would highly recomend it, it has james_bond's stamp of approval for sure. Ok time for some random pics some good some not.

Grrr, it'd be a no brainer if I could get the 13+1 here in California, but I can only get 10

I will probably get the XD Tactical .45 in January though. I really like it.

Thanks for the review.

Great pix and comments! I think the XD's are great. I remember when they were a croation company called HS Arms, the XD was the HS2000 model. Then springfield bought them out and doubled the price

A great pistol, for sure.

Nice pistol, they function very well. I really like shoothing XD's. Waiting periods are about as useful as as axe without a bit.

Very nice weapon!
My Glock holds 13 rounds of .45, as well. It's like having an on-board reload.
You have the best of both worlds; a classic round in a modern handgun.

I always thought you would be a PPK man myself. I guess the XD is a nice full sized fighting pistol and the PPK for when you need something smaller. Like the DF and the SS4. I have tiny little girl hands so the original 1911 single stack is perfect for me and you can only have 10 rounds max in Canada anyway(if you can even get a pistol permit). I have not even considered it because since you can't take them out of your house I would prefer a nice pump 12 gauge for home defence and something like the DFLE in the car and a Chinoo3 on my person.

congrats 007 I can live vicariously through your pistol.

Glocks are a very nice tool but I find them a bit soulless.
I would prefer a Makarov or PPK for a small gun and a SZ52 or CZ75 for a fighting pistol. 7.62/25 packs a whallop and is one of the only armour piercing rounds you can get in the US. I would love a CZ75 in 7.62/25. The Russians are making lots of new guns in 7.62 now so it could happen. I love that cool rollerdelay breach in the CZ52. The new Armalite Turk CX75 clone looks cool as well.

I have no reason to own a pistol other than that male drive to own every gun you ever thought was interesting.

I am going to get the ideal Canadian home defence firearm. A nice 12 gauge but with a wood stock and preferably engravings of dogs holding ducks in their mouths.
I will set it up with good sights a fitted comfortable stock and a proper sling.
If I want a light I will use a petzel light strapped on my head not the gun.
I will probably spring for a used Remington 700. I like blued steel and nicly figured wood but since if you shoot a burglar or home invader in your house in Canada you are pretty much guaranteed going to court I want something that looks not the least bit tactical. It will have the shortest legal barrel 18 and a half which is about perfect anyway.

My ideal shottie is as effective as any tactical gun. I would not mind a couple inch shorter barrel but I would still want a full stock and no lights ,lazers ,bayonets(well maybe a small one) etc. Also it will make a great hunting gun.

it is a gun you know!

but why do you need that?
in canada is it a law that the gun must be inteneded for hunting purposes or something?

i know you said something about it before...but i dont remember.
