I've batoned with 3 of my Busse family knives (that being all of them except the HR)

seems to me ease of batoning goes up exponentially with blade length, leverage helps a lot although it also tends to roll the edge a bit more frequently on the bigger knives.

I have a Rat Mastiff which batons like a dream, a CT which is my favorite all around knife and has gotten the most use and a SJTAC which also batons well but I don't like to carry as much since it is heavier and the handle is much less comfortable than I was hoping when I traded for it.

those aren't acronyms, they're just abbreviations. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

I'm pretty sure they're acronyms, and I'm pretty sure I'm never going to learn them without a concience (sp?) effort.
I'd have to like make a list and study them.

ac·ro·nym
–noun
1. a word formed from the initial letters or groups of letters of words in a set phrase or series of words, as Wac from Women's Army Corps, OPEC from Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries, or loran from long-range navigation.

HR, CT and SJTAC don't make words, you'd say them as letters, at least I would.

But if you want to say them phonetically:

Huuurrrr, Sssst and Sssjjtack

instead of pronouncing the names of the letters H.R. C.T. and S.J.T.A.C
that's your perogative, but I think you'd sound pretty dumb.

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Maybe they're acronyms in Polish or something but I only speak English, French, German, Russian and Spanish and they don't make a word in any of those languages. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

ab·bre·vi·a·tion n.
The act or product of shortening.
A shortened form of a word or phrase used chiefly in writing to represent the complete form, such as Mass. for Massachusetts or USMC for United States Marine Corps.

I changed MuttLE to MuttLY therby making it officially an acronym.

I hated the acronyms as well but now unless it is a oddball one like SJTAC I don't notice.

I try to write it out the first time long hand like "Crash Rat" then afterwards use the abbreviation CR which makes it easier for me to write but also possible for someone to figure out what the heck I am talking about.

I just read Ragnar bensons book "Mantrapping" and most of the traps can be made with a good knife capable of being batoned and some wire.

Allright smart alek, what about the ASH?? huh? And fyi they've always been known as "Busse Acronyms". A few more "a little more obvious "acronyms" would be the BAT, SHE, FSH, MOASH, MOAB, etc. In the Busse community, for the most part, the knives are only referred to by thier acronyms which gives the oustider a rather confusing experience, its really best not to insult their intelligence or by over defining things eh?

My favorite Busse acronym is the CPDNOER, possible runner up CPDBA3. I think theres a longer one, but I cannot for the life of me remember it.

Sure those are, I didn't say that acronyms didn't exist here, I just said CT, and HR are not acronyms... and they're not, not even close.

insult their intelligence by over defining things

...We have two different words for two different things for a reason. It's clear cut and well established. It's not "over defining" and while pointing out the misuse of a word may be rude (and I'll admit and apologise because it was, Sorry.) it isn't an insult to someone's intelligence, just a pointer to a lack of knowledge, or lack of willingness to use knowledge.

If I called a shotgun a rifle I bet you'd point it out right quick, wouldn't ya?

and I might be irritated, but I wouldn't be offended, because I don't consider ignorance a right, THAT is a phenomenon endemic to TEXAS. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

I'm not really insulted...but "I don't consider ignorance a right" ?
(thats slightly insulting, it was a mistake not being ignorant)

sure it is...

but anyways its okay,I guess your just trying to educate me.
I think I might get it,
so acronyms can use the first one or two letters and also form another word...(?) if I'm correct.
