I am trying to find a Dogfather and had two quick questions:
I noticed that in the product discription they advertise it as having a covex edge. Is this true of all the Dogfathers or just the latest run? Reason I ask is that I found one on the used market (marked up of course ) but the owner says it looks more like a flat V grind. I really want a big chopper with a convex edge>
My other question: Is there a scheduled date when the dogfather will be released again. I'd really like to pick one up straight from scapyard even if I get on on the used market.
Thanks SGTCap

There probably won't be any more dog fathers released for some time, they just released the Dog Father LE which was a one time offering. They do have another release coming soon, you may find something you are looking for then just keep your eyes on the forum for an announcement. If you have your heart set on a DF than hit the exchange would be the best advice I can offer. Oh yeah, almost forgot, welcome to the forums

Welcome to the yard!
The DF edges are convexed but it's so slight you can barely see it! As to when they come out again, who knows?? (Apart from Jerry Busse!)

The edge has a very fine convex grind.
But, what you might be confused about is the "primary" grind.
The Dog Fathers - both have a flat grind with a (secondary grind) convex edge.
There are some other makers such as Bark River and Fallkniven that have a "Full" convex to sharp single grind - no secondary grind.

Welcome to the yard! You can always make your grind more convex using a strop or belt sander to your liking - don't let the factory edge deter you from getting one!

Thank you guys. One last question (I think) what do YOU use to put an edge on your Dogfathers?
I just covexed and sharpened my first knife ( A kershaw Outcast D2) with sandpaper on a soft backing. I didnt know if y'all were doing something similar or perhaps using rods/stones and then convexing on a strop.

Welcome to the Yard SGTCap. I think most of us run the gamet in terms of sharpening methods from stroping to belt sanders. I use a strop and/or belt sander on most of my convex type edges. I use an Edge Pro and Sharpmaker for v grinds. Good luck in your quest.
