My Orange Kershaw Tyrade came it today. It's a bit stiff and none of my bits fit the screw to adjust it. I guess it will loosen up with use. I put some Break Free on it. It's about the same size as the JYD II, but has a thicker blade.

Of all these Kershaw made knives, the Speed Bump is the fastest opening by far.

For years, like most outdoorsmen and bikers, I carried the Buck 110, and then the Buck Lite. But when Cold Steel came out with the Voyager and Vaquero series, I went with them. Voyagers are so light, you can carry a big one with comfort and ease. Knife snobs may not like them, but they perform very well for me in ordinary everyday use.

I never got into the Spyderco craze as much as some folks, but I have a few, and they are very nice for the money, epecially the Tenacious. I just haven't used them much.

These are some rugged outdoor knives from Al Mar, Ontario, and Blade-Tech. They have heavy built liner locks, except for the framelock BT Rijbak.

The Swamp Rat RT has been my EDC for over a year. It is slim and light. It carries almost as well as a Voyager with superior S30V steel. It was made by Blade Tech. Here it is along side the Rijbak.

Here are my Benchmades. The Skirmish is a brute of a frame lock. I would not fear to baton with it. The OTF Auto Infidel is not so tight. It's mostly a weapon. The Deja Voo is about the slickest opening liner lock I have seen. I like the flat ground blade and carried it for a while, until I got the Swamp Rat.

[Linked Image from i173.photobucket.com]

So here are all my big bad frame locks together. The newest is the ZT, which is just fun to fick open all day.

But even the frame locks look wimpy next to the CS Rajah II, my favorite woods folder. It can even chop. That's awesome for a folder.

Maybe next time I'll photgraph my SAKs, Gerbers, Bucks, Camillus, and others.

Taking Horn Dog's lead... here are my EDC's in chronological order.

(I have a few other folders, but not many. I honestly try to buy knives that I intend to use, so with folders I buy a new knife to replace the current EDC.)

First off, when I turned 16 I took my birthday money and bought this Swiss Army "Mechanic". I loved MacGyver, so I had to have a genuine SAK. I carried it for a few years then just stopped for a while, can't remember why.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

Right after I got married (over ten years ago) I wanted to start carrying everyday. I haven't gone a day without a knife since. My buddy was looking for a Christmas present for his pop, so we went to the local knife shop and fell in love with this guy... the CRKT "Mirage". We bought three.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

I carried that for at least a year, loved that knife. I knew nothing about knives and was lucky to start my knife collecting with a Columbia River.

Well, of course as my interest in knives grew, I discovered other brands and models and when I first moved to Utah (almost ten years ago) I researched and researched and decided the Cold Steel "El Hombre" was the perfect knife for me. It totally was. I carried it for years, and never met anyone who had one... loved it!

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

I discovered Spyderco next, and even though I still loved my El Hombre I wanted to own at least one Spyderco. My in-laws got me this one for Christmas a couple years later. I think it's the "Endura".

I carried it in my left pocket as a backup for my Hombre for a few months... then stopped.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

Not long after I read somewhere (probably in their catalog) that the Cold Steel employee folder of choice was the Large clip-point serrated "Voyager".

Long story short... I traded up. I carried that Voyager for years and beat the crap out of it.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

I don't know why, maybe I just thought it was cool, but I wanted to have a good quality butterfly knife. So, for Christmas not long after my wife got me a Benchmade one. I don't know what the model is, but it's pretty basic. I learned to flip it around a little and carried it in addition to my Voyager in the case "canted" on my belt across my back.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

After a few weeks I noticed my back would ache by the end of the day. I put the balisong in the knife box.

When I saw this guy in the catalog I thought, "Ok, I gotta carry that thing!" Cold Steel Ti Lite VI.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

It tore holes in my pocket, so I stopped... and traded up for this:

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

Say what you want, but it takes a real man to EDC the "Vaquero Grande".

I carried it everywhere except for church. Then I carried the Benchmade auto my buddy gave me. It was my "Gentleman's Knife".

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

It wasn't long, maybe a year, before I felt that a six inch blade was a bit excessive. So when I saw Ken William's Hissatsu folder, I was sold.

Carried it for a couple of years.

[Linked Image from i666.photobucket.com]

And then, about 6 months ago I traded that up for the Spyderco "Tenacious". I haven't found a knife I wanted to trade that one up for yet... but maybe a ZT would be nice. I don't know. Not long after I got that I started spending all my "knife money" of SYKCO fixed blades! So the Tenacious will be fine for now. More then "fine", it's a great knife.

Whew! Done.

My current EDC knives are a Kershaw Shallot w/ ZDP-189 composite blade. It has been modified by the addition of a black pocket clip, its recurve is removed, and it currently has bandaid sticky tape on it for traction. I need to get some skate board tape for it. My other EDC knife (for lighter colored pants) is a reverse tanto Leek with an American Flag aluminum scale and stainless liner on one side and stainless framelock on the other.

I will likely pick up a black Aluminum scaled Speed Bump again when I can again afford to buy something. A Waki and two S5s orders killed my discretionary funds for a long while. I really liked the 'Stud Lock' on that knife. It was [censored] fast opening and closing once it was broken in.

Although the Tenacious gets great reviews from just about everyone who owns it, I am unlikely to ever purchase one. As a general rule I do not like liner lock knives, the orange Tyrade being my only exception. I also do not like to purchase goods made in China.

BTW the kershaw knives pretty much all take a Torx 6 for the scale or handle screws and a Torx 10 for the pivot.

My current EDC is a CRKT M16-13Z. I love the hell out of it. It's not as big/badass as some of the folders in this thread (I like the look of that Kershaw Tyrade and might order one, but it looks a tad large for my hands and pockets), but I find it to be just about the perfect sized blade for anything I throw at it. Small enough that it doesn't weird people out, spear-point shape which I love, a little serrated (but not too much). I've used it for everything from woodwork to slicing food on the trail to prying a cork from a wine bottle when I had no corkscrew. Locks up stiff as hell and I love the assisted opening. It was my first serious knife and it goes everywhere with me.

I just ordered a Woodsknife Wk2 folding puukko, I'll post my thoughts on that when it arrives.

Anywho, lots of cool knives in this thread, I'm looking forward to slowly acquiring a larger folder collection.

I got a Spyderco Military a few years back and I haven't been able to put it down.

[Linked Image from i13.photobucket.com]

I've bought plenty of other knives but I just always seem to pick this one up. I think its as ugly as sin but the steel, weight, size, ergos, lock, Spyder hole, and jimping keep me coming back!

Thinking about woods carry folders I thought this would make a nice addition.

[Linked Image from cache.backpackinglight.com]

Should be good in case I drop it.

Maybe I'll ask my wife for my birthday... in a couple months.

I keep hearing awesome things about the Griptilians, and I thought what set them apart was the handles.

So, what don't you like about them? Would help me out.
