First a bit of background, I decided my BOB was not adequate, so I broke it down into 2 parts, while adding more mission specific gear. This is the short term part of it. I like to think of this is a 72 hour kit, and my BOB as a week or more kit.

The bag is geared towards urban/suburban survival. Due to my location if I choose to leave my home its likely I will travel lots of back roads and through many very small towns. This bag would however act as a support if I were taking my BOB into the wilderness.

Shirt, plastic bags, 2 pairs socks, 2 pairs boxers, katadyn hiker water filter, camp soap, wet wipes, pot lid, toilet paper

Ti Mug, soda stove, 91 percent alcohol, sport beans (from tad gear), they are basically a jellybean with vitamins, minerals, electrolytes, some carbs, ect

[Linked Image from i2.photobucket.com]

Paracord, leatherman kick, spyderco native, cotton balls, SAK, 2 Gerber infinites (different versions)

[Linked Image from i2.photobucket.com]

Prybar thing, scrapyard scrapper 6 on the sheath, thread, paracord, rubber bands, clips, safty pins, superglue tube, magblock fire starter, al foil.

[Linked Image from i2.photobucket.com]
Snickers, tuna packets, coffee filters, sport beans, concentrated gateraid mix, hot chocolate mix, 2 water bottles.

[Linked Image from i2.photobucket.com]
spork, trashbag, hat, mmmm caffeine gum.

[Linked Image from i2.photobucket.com]
My main hiking pack. Very comfortable and light too.

Gold, euros, dollars. It would only let me have 5 pics in the first post.

Not pictured: Nalgene, 3 mountain house meals, Big agnes yampa 40 sleeping bag, sleeping pad, very minor first aid kit.

- I will add some fishing gear in a film canister soon just because its so small and can provide so much food.
- When funds permit I will buy another Gregory pack, its just not a priority right now.

Comments are appreciated, other pictures are more then welcome!

That is a very well made "go bag". Look like you are pretty much prepared for anything with that.

I might have to try and make one myself. I am however missing a few much needed equipment.

Specifically a multitool and a flint. Gonna have to get one soon.

Right now this is my survival thigh rig.

In the plastic baggy contains matches, large clump of cotton, compass, whistle, cotton swabs, various bandaids, and neosporin. Just the bare minimum for survival, firestarting, weaponry, and tools.

Of course, I've got my day backpack which has enough space for pretty much anything (2180 cubic ft).

IME, ditch the magnesium block. It's time intensive and a PITA to use in any weather but calm. Not to mention that it's useless if you don't have something to whittle on it with (you do, but just saying). I happened upon the blastmatch, and ditched the magnesium blocks RIGHT THEN. There are other takes on the blastmatch, but the blastmatch is quick and easy to use. Along with that, tinder is a nifty thing to have. There are several different types that are good. The quickfire is nice, if you don't open it - once it's exposed to air, it decays moderately quick.

The other thing I noted quickly was no capacity of replentishing the water supply. Did I miss something? Iodine works well, is light, and packages small - in the polarpure for example. The other option - the one I took - was to put a small bottle of tablets in a pouch along with a MSR miniworks. Warning - the tablets go bad if opened too....... The waterworks can be configured so that the output line hooks directly into where the bite valve was (QD) on a camelbak. Very quick, and allows direct filling of the camelbak reservoir from a prone position if needed / desired (think stalking into an area to 'swipe' some water undetected). You're not the only one that carries gatorade mix (GRIN). But it's bad to throw in a reservoir. I got some camelbak elixir - essentially 'camelbak friendly gatorade type stuff' to try. It comes in a tablet form and is more expensive, but I haven't drawn a full conclusion on it yet.

And lastly, you've got a kit without a pistol and extra mags? I know, it's 'cause the pistol is ALWAYS on you, so redundant to have in the kit too, right?

i have to disagree. i really like the mag block. i have a swisstool spirit. takes no time to get a good pile with the metal file. wind is a big problem, but digging a little or laying your firewood in a perimeter takes care of that.

you don't even have to mess around with a perimeter. just scrape the filings onto some duct tape or half of a band-aid.

i tried the duct tape thing today. it doesn't create a pile, just a sheet. i ended up with a lot of holes in a piece of tape.

You know, if you have a SYK with you, digging a deep pit shouldn't be a problem.

I'm sure an S6 will have a decently size pit within 30 seconds of taking it out of its sheath.

if ya have a thyroid problem?? err well ya wont have it long at least!!

I would get a few magnum non lubricated condoms for getting water

Add some petrolium jelly to those cotton balls bro...works like a charm

get hyourself some quart ziplock bags (2) and a couple gallon

throw in 2 large leaf bags and you are on your way

couple candles and a box of matches would also be sweet

knife sharpener (pad and sandpaper)

My 2 cents. If you have the room sleeping bag is great if not, or have weight concerns a gore-tex bivy bag is the bomb. Blocks the wind/rain and locks in heat pretty good too.

My decision to never buy crap has paid off.

I have one of those pry-things, as well. I could not resist when I placed my last countycomm order. It will be handy for lots o' stuff.

The spork rocks! I have one on my edc bag. I use it constantly when traveling. It is amazing how many places don't give you a spoon when you order coffee, especially in West Virginia.

All great gear to have, one thing is key ...... HAVE IT WITH YOU when you need it!
Thinking back to 9/11, I had to go into work (I am in wa. state) I grabbed my type of "GO" bag, I had a gas mask with 2 filters, ar15 with 20 loade mags, a 5 gal jug o water, a box of mre's, and a 9mm with 2 boxes o ammo. That was the basics that I thought that I might need to get someware, not to mention the other stuff I always have in my truck, keltec sub 40 under the seat, lighter, space blanket tarp, etc, etc.
The more stuff the better, but be realistic of what you will carry.
Day to day I carry a handgun with enough ammo to get me out of a jam, couple of pocket knives, rifle under the seat, some mre's, and a basic first aid kit.
I do have a buddy that has a HK 91 with 1000 rounds stuffed away in his rig, not to mention all of the other goodies(you can only imagine)
All of that said, Carry what you can to suit you needs, ie urban, woods, city, whatever.
