Once I have the edge I like with the sander, I just use a ceramic rod very lightly for touch ups.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks to everyone for the replies... I went ahead and ordered a sharpmaker the other day. I don't know if it will have enough UMPH to get my DMDC as sharp as i'd like (in the amount of time that i'd like to spend sharpening it) but I needed a good sharpening system for the regular upkeep of the rest of my knives. I know i'll eventually get a belt sander but i just wasn't ready to take that plunge just yet.

Porter Cable belt sander, then a finishing strokes on the sharp maker.

When you care enough to use only the best...stick'em with a SKYCO knife.

It's quite satisfying to make your own sheath, and it really makes you appreciate the pros. The pouch sheath is one of the easiest to make. If you get the stuff to try to make one and I can help any, just lemme know. I want to make a pocket sheath soon for my SW. This time I'll try to remember to take lots of pics of the process to document it.
