That is cool news.
Not as good as the fact that I am eating chocolate ice cream for dinner, but it comes in a close second.

This is a foregone conclusion as you said Dan.

This job was yours last September when we put so much smoke/prayers and well wishes up in your behalf. Sherry and I knew the moment you told us what you going for that it would be yours.

Thanks God the wait is finally over for you and your loving bride Cindy.
This must be a time to hoist a glass and say Thanks for all prayers answered.

The wait for full time pay checks will have you gulping a bit till then, but at least you have that assurance that it will occur.

Cook County Illinois could NOT have a better more dedicated and devoted Archaeologist to hunt ,find, explain and preserve the plethora of past tools waiting to be discovered by YOU!

What a dream come true. A lifetime position at your age is really hard to come by Dan,but to have the ideal job of your life is just a blessing beyond words I'm sure.

Enjoy the ride my dear friend, tomorrows interview will feel great!
You own that position and NO ONE is even going to be considered but you!

Sweet dreams!

Peace,

Dave and Sherry,

The day has finally dawned. Yesterday I received a call that I have waited for since September.

At 9:20 AM, tomorrow morning I will be interviewing with the Forest Preserve District of Cook County for the position that I have coveted. I have to go through this formality, but I already know what the answer is.

I have been working my butt off since September to make this happen, the reason I have not been here (on the forum) as often as I used to be. Tomorrow that will all change.

The last interview I did was for a naturalist postion, which I knew in advance, I was not going to get. I just went throught the procedure to get an understanding of how the interview worked.

Tomorrow is different however. For the first time since 1996 (when the last guy retired) The Forest Preserves will have an on staff archaeologist....... ME!!!!!

My hard work and wait is over. I now have 68,000 acres of woodland, ponds, rivers, creeks, hills and fields as my office. This will be part time for the first year and then full time after a year.

For the first time in my life, I will be a paid archaeologist.

By the way, since I have not been on as much I have MANY photos to post of knives................. MANY!!!!

I just wanted to share the news with my SY Brothers!

WOW that is great news.

I know you have work like crazy for this...it is well deserved

Congrats
Dan

Now THATS a cool job! Congrats!

As an archeologist what exactly will be your responsibilities?

My job, aside from the lectures and tours would consist of my surveying sites, check for looting, bring schools and the general public in on excavations, proper public displays and general protection of antiquites on Forest Preserve land. There is more to this as well

The funny thing is, they will be paying me to hike around and search for new sites. This is the best part and I can wear my smaller knives..... DM, MP, RMD!

I am almost there. Even though I know it is mine I still have to wait for them to make the call to me to offer the position. It is funny because even my friends have to follow the rules as the HR stuff is strict (county stuff)

I want to thank everyone for their support and wishes!

Dan
