Man i remember my first encounter with a swisher sweet. I was 16 and thought i was cool cause all the kids where smoking them then. I lit it up and inhaled a big puff. I thought i was gonna die. I was coughing my lungs out.

Thats when a friend started to laugh at me and told me your not suppose to inhale them. The next moring i woke up with my throat on fire.

I never touched a swisher again. I was really into black and milds when i was 18 thats all i would smoke. Then i got hooked on marlbro lights the small ones i think there 72's. After that i would only smoke a black and mild if i ran out of a pack and only had 75 cents.

I use to like to smoke these for awhile. Then alot of the stores around my town stoped carring them.

I would like to try the real thing tho. Ill keep reading this thread for more info.

Nick, I laughed my butt off when I read that!

I did the same thing too first time I smoked a cigar. I took it like a cigarette and wow ... I had been smoking for a few years at that time around 1973 I think. I smoked the whole cigar like that...trying to be cool. It was a a Rush concert in Illinois. Their first United States appearance. it was at a Ice Arena. LOL Three years later Rush was headlining and selling out 50,000 seat venues. Any way I smoked that bad boy to the butt.

I was soooo sick that night. I coughed till I thought a lung was coming out. My parents were all over me for smoking anyway, and when I had that fit in my room at night it was a weapon for them for months afterwords.

Yes, you draw a large puff in the mouth, pause then exhale it with a pffffff attitude to your mouth. And the only thing you ever want from the cigar is the flavor of the leaves, not the smoke!

Great story Nick.

It seems that most people like Dominican Cigars which tend to be mild to medium in taste. Very close to a Cuban as the islands are stones throws apart any way.
Be nice if some day we let Cuba trade with us again for the sake of our money and their cigars! We could turn that country around with Capitalist cash pouring into it!

You need to try a few real cigars to see what the difference is. It's really amazing the tastes and wide array of finishes they have. They all change at about 1/2 in to the cigar, then again around the 2/3 way and the nub ..butween 3 and 2 inches is always my favorite point in the smoke.
Very interesting the way they change and deliver different flavors and thickness of smoke.

Time to go outside and have one.... enough talk!

Peace.

I haven't done tons of research on e-stores. Once I had sampled enough from the local retailers, I settled in on www.jrcigar.com. Never had a problem with them and prices don't seem to be too oppressive. I'm a sucker for promotional items with orders (I know there's no such thing as a free lunch), and they have some sweet specials every month of the year.

btw, you inspired me... pulled out the cognac... sipping a VSOP at this very moment!

Bruce,

That is a super sweet Custom Pipe there!

I tried to smoke a pipe for a bit around chemo time about a year and a half ago and found that I was constantly re-lighting the pipe. Aggravation number one,and the tobaccos I tried were all burning the tip of my tongue so much so that I derived NO pleasure from it at all.

Seeing that pipe of yours makes me wonder if maybe the chemo made it taste funny to me?
I always enjoyed the lingering smell of a pipe and despised the lingering haunt of a cigar.
Now I smoke cigars that I know will have the house smelling like crap this winter.

Maybe I should start a new thread for help?

How do I get away with smoking a cigar in the house?

I don't want the house to wreak of stale cigars when people come in. Let alone my family who don't smoke at all.

I have a basement and was toying with the idea of setting up a fan vented casement window thing that would allow me to smoke indoors during the winter and not stink up the house.
The bad thing is you puff and exhale the cloud of smoke to taste it. I need to come up with a idea.

HELP!!!

Peace.

It looks like jbombelli's tastes and mine run very similar. If I had to pick two absolute favorites it would be Arturo Fuente Hemingways and Padron 1926's. Love 'em.

Actually, I smoke cigars too. Most especially when I am enjoying a scotch or two.
Generally I like the small, mild, flavored ones, but a cigar smoking friend of ours occassionally gives me some smooth costly thing or other I have never heard of.

The husband recently switched from cigs to just a pipe. We are very proud of him.
