should i be proud or ashamed of myself for the current state of the magnificent satin finish my DFLE cam with. of course i've seen worse but most DFLE's are spotless.this one is gaining a slight patina.i dont find it attractive,i like the beautiful satin finish it came with but this is a tool so it is what it is.its not that bad though. trust me,if you saw it in real life and next to a brand new DFLE you would really be able to see how gray the blade really is. i see if i cant get it a little grayer in the next few months.

PROUD! And I think most here will agree. Sure I love the look a brand spanking new knife, but nothing feels better then beating on it too. Still, for me at least, at the end of the day I try and wipe it down good.

i may wipe it down, and then throw it back in the sheath and fall asleep.or i might just stick it into a tree and leave it their over night.
i chop so much with it that this layer of tree gunk gets caked on the blade and only comes off with a hard scrubbing with a scotchbright pad and WD40.last night i chopped a 14in freshly fallen oak tree in half.it took an hour or more but after that much chopping the blade was just caked with tree gunk and i'm never in a hurry to clean it off.
i need to buy a second DFLE.i should've gotten two in the first place

Proud +1 My DFLE is in pristine shape and I am a bit embarrassed about it.

I would always clean when I sharpen....harder use....more cleans and more need to touch up the edge. It depends on how the blade is used as well. If I used it for meat/food I would remove the tannin marks and sap stains....no use being proud and stuck on the toilet! But I agree....a used look has a much more professional image for the knife...they say you can tell a lot about anyone by their kit when they are outdoors....some people look like it is home...some people look like they just walked out of a shop!
Several miles down the road and they often need a taxi....
I always say you treat your guns and knives like you treat your boots. Well used, comfortable and looked after.....

I would be proud of using the tool the way it was intended to be used, but ashamed of how I maintained it. I work in the field of construction where the job is not complete until the tools are clean and put away.

I think you should send it to me for proper disposal.

Dog abuse! You've been recognized as a abuser of dogs; therefore, your DFLE must now go to a proper owner, namely me! LOL! I'd try one of those nylon brush wheels you can buy for bench grinders, and see if it can be cleaned up. Other than that, a knife is supposed to be used, not just viewed. If you're happy, that's what is important.
