I haven't camped since I was a kid and I want to start camping. Hike-in kind of camping. I've seen on this site some great examples of chopping your own for survival and comparing blades. But, I've been told by others who have camped in national parks throughout the country that it's illegal to use wood from the park. One must carry in their firewood.

Choppers are not as necessary on a camping trip when you use store-bought firewood!

Are members of this site who've submitted pics of chopping out in the woods located on their own property or other private property?

While you can't cut wood the state parks allow you to use deadfall around here. Guess I'd better check the regs for a national park.

If you don't sharpen your axe from time to time, you will soon be chopping with a hammer. JYD #81

I camp a lot on Mt. Lemmon outside of Tuscon and they cut a lot of trees down on their own, thing is they don't make it into campfire sized logs for you. I believe its listed as a National Forest but I'm not a 100% on that, I'll check when I head up there Friday. Perfectly legal to burn the stuff they cut or the deadfall there, and a good chopper is very neccesary.

There are places like the Grand Canyon where its kept so tidy you won't find any deadfall, at least that's how it was around 5 years ago. Pretty much have to bring your own wood along there.

I want to camp just to take a pic of a SYK stuck in a stump. Then I could join the rough and tumble ranks of the SYK Chopping Crew...

So the key is to find a national forest to beat up on...
