I have seen those before, one hell of a rifle, that is one to take to the mountains with your buddies and dare them to shoot it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Would "Why?" be an inconvenient question for this rifle to answer?

The .577 TRex I have not got any data on but .577 calibre rifles like the .577 Nitro Express are designed to work on dangerous game in Africa....usually Buffalo or Elephant....it is meant to be able to stop a charging animal. The rifle shoots a 650g bullet at velocities of 1850fps to 2000 fps. A 600 N.E. or Nitro Express shoots a 900g bullet at the lower end of the above velocity band.

The kick on these is more of a "push" than a "slam" .....which you get from faster cartridges which shoot heavy bullets such as a .50 Browning or ".50 BMG" which shoots a bullet of 709g at 2300 fps. Rifle weights also differ considerably with the .50 BMG being a much heavier rifle....but the video is misleading...it is possible to shoot the .577 or indeed the .600 N.E. stood up and without dropping the rifle and hitting a paper side plate at 40 yards with iron sights using a light weight rifle of similar weight to that in the video ......firing two shots in quick succession.

The people in the video seemed to be a bit inexperienced on shooting rifles of this type IMO....unless the .577 TRex is some wildcat case using .50 BMG velocities...but I seriously doubt it.

Ahhh... the .577 T-Rex. I like that rifle. Here is #1 on my list of big caliber rifles, though:

Garrett makes a .416 which I believe he made because of the .50cal restrictions in California. I have not handled one but it looks like basically all they did was neck down a .50 to .416.

JYD#14 Do you need one, of course you do it's a knife and you like knives.....

You may be in luck. Check this out:

http://www.serbu.com/top/bfg50.php

Unless laws have recently changed, this .50 cal is legal in California because the law defines the illegal shell by dimensions. This company makes a gun to shoot shells that are slightly smaller, so it's legal. If you click on "California," there should be a picture of their shells.

Also, the 50 BMG rifles are a whole lot heavier with huge muzzle brakes that tame down the recoil quite a bit.

I have videos of a Professional Guide in Africa that shoots the side-by-side 600 Nitro very effectively. Shooting those rifles with big kahuna calibers really take serious practice and skill.

Kinda reminds me of a guy I know. he owns a side-by-side ten gauge that takes 3.5" shells. We were out hunting ducks and geese, and he decided to pull on the trigger hard, which ended up activating the second trigger as well. The force from both barrels firing at once dislocated his shoulder and threw him out of the boat. We had to get him back in the boat without causing him too much pain, rush him across the lake to the truck, and get him to the hospital.

Need less to say, he's a lot more careful about how he pulls on those triggers now!

Guys let me tell you something, a true lightweight rifle chambered in .340 or .378 Weatherby is much more vicious to shoot than the big African dangerous game rifles. The Big African rifles are heavy and give you a big thud or push, whereas the .340 or .378 Weatherby in a lightweight mountain rifle will tear your head off.
