I was hoping to have recieved either my new knife from Stomper or my new knife from ML knives for todays hike but thanks to Canadian snail mail it wasn't to be !

Any how Maisy couldn't care less about my knives , she just wanted to get out and enjoy what's left of the snow !!!

There were little streams running all through the forest today....

Can ya remember this guy from one of my previous posts ? Well he was still hanging around, he looked a little frost-bitten though !!!

[Linked Image from i129.photobucket.com]

It was pretty cool out today so I decided to make another Fatwood torch to warm my hands by.

[Linked Image from i129.photobucket.com]

I started to make the splits in the green-ish branch !

Now I'd like to blame the cold for my poor motor skills but I'd be lying !!!

[Linked Image from i129.photobucket.com]

The finished torch, I packed some lamp oil soaked lint into the bottom of the split to take a spark !

2nd strike and we had fire !!!

With my hands well warmed and a belly full of tea we headed back......

There were loads of Rabbit tracks and deer but it was the cougar tracks I was keeping an eye out for, luckily I didn't spot any today !!!!

Cool, I've gotta try that. The torch, not the cutting myself (again). I was in Vancouver on thanksgiving and missed out on the snow, I might have to go back soon. I went to visit my cousin(he's going to Vancouver Film School) and we were hoping to go on a trek like yours. Was that on the island?

Cool torch, pitman. We need thousands of them to be carried along with pitchforks for the next big protest!

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Great pics, Pit, looks like a lot of fun!

I tried to harvest some Fatwood from a poor itty bitty Pine that died from the drought last year. The only pine tree on my property and I know of one other within walking distance and it's still good and heathy last time I checked, so anyway, not much fatwood to be had there... I'm gunna have to change my statagy! It was fun chopping it down and splitting it up to look though!

Yeah, the place he told me about was near some mountain about a 45 min. drive north of Vancouver. That's it, two more trips to Canada for me this year. I'll probably fly this time, that border-wait sucked!

I'd sell my house and move to BC except:

1 The housing market is bad for sellers now.
2 I don't have any cold weather clothes.
3 I like snub nose revolvers.
Sure is some pretty country, though.

Torches and pitchforks? What are you protesting, Vic, the local Vampire infestation? Has a Mad Scientist taken over the castle?

Those pictures make me want to take the day off and get out there Pit....

I know what you mean about the Canadian Post as well...I bought a back up RMD from Cold One ages ago and it still has'nt arrived over here yet...I know your RMD is your favourite knife but I never see you taking it out on your walks....do you keep it for "Sunday Best"? Which knife is that one?
