heres mine: Main pocket of Jumbo: contents of main pocket: Front pocket, with red zipper pull to indicate First Aid stuff: contents of front pocket: side pocket, with crazy glue for repairs, lighter, spare Grimloc biner, also SureFire 8AX Commander with red flip up lens behind side pocket: Weapons pocket, with Handley Bladesmith TAC EDC & Scrapyard SOD: Strap pouches, HSGI clip pouches: HSGI clip pouches contents, SureFire 8AX Spare battery, FENIX TK11: Other side of strap, BECKER/KABAR BK9, with Micro BK13, and Micheal Morris SAR File Necker: I set this up so I could malice clip all the pouches in the main pocket to the strap, like a bandoleer, in the event that i needed lots of main pocket space. EDIT: forgot to add, top pocket is for compass, Ermerson CQC11 Utcom folder, keys

maxped jumbo slung over the shoulder, minus the HSGI clip pouches, didnt use them that day. Also shown a manfrotto tripod slung thru the strap. For height references, i stand 5' 10" 190 lbs (10% BF). *note the easy to spot red zipper pull for the FAK pocket. Invaluable for sending your hiking buddies to your kit to get the FAK......"its in the red zipper pocket!"

Hey Vic, you can attach a Janus pouch to it to lengthen the strap and add a pocket if you want.

Well I'm back on line. I was all set to go to bed, but I just am not sleepy for some reason, so here I am. Yes, I carry my shoulder bags on my left side. I am right handed, so I don't know why. This bag is so much more comfortable and better designed than any I have ever owned, I am still learning about it. Ain't no drag, Pappa's got a brand new bag. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

Funny, I carry my bags on the left shoulder as well even though I'm right handed.
Ok, I'm confused. I have a jansport I love with a strong durable leather bottom and molle straps that I have edc'd for maybe 2-3 years. It has about 15-20 pounds of gear most of the time.
How would a maxpedition be better? Clearly everyone loves them but I'm looking for some details, please. Thanks.

Also, how about weather resistance? I've used the spray water repellent but I would prefer an all weather bag. Not the ones you can dunk in a river, just one that can handle a little rain.

I've EDC'd a Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon Pack now for several years and it's still going strong! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif" alt="" /> I've got several different Maxpediton bags and packs. And to think I used to make fun of my wife for all her purses... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/loopy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/paperbag.gif" alt="" /> Now I've probably got just as many man purses as her..... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

I got my wife a Jumbo-S exactly like Vic's for a Christmas present. Even put a bit of a PSK kit into it for her. So far it's been sitting in the bedroom. I really like it, and am going to get myself one soon, but I don't think that she likes hers that much. Don't know why. It is a very good bag.

I went for a hike today to check out my Jumbo. It carries very well. I'll need to attach some more water bottles for summer. It was 77 today, and I drank all 28 oz in my bottle. [

Today was a chance for me to try out a few other items of gear, too. I went to the local park as usual and headed out with my new Maxpedition Jumbo and my new Rajah II. It was warm at 77F, but a stiff breeze was coming in from the river. When I got to the campground, where I usually take a break, I saw a SUV parked there! I met Lynnette, the girl scout leader, and she was in the advance party for thier leadership campout. They let her drive the gear there. So I headed on down the trail to find another place to have my late lunch and show off the gear. Then I came upon a treasure, a fat lighter stump. And me with no fixed blade! What to do? I wanted to gather some to give to the girl scouts on my way back. With a snick, Rajah appeared! Not as good as the SOD, but easier for concealed pocket carry. So I split some fat lighter out and stuffed it in my new bag. On down the trail, I found another place to have my lunch. Wow, check out these evil ants! I won't gather from this stump! So on the way back, I gave Lynette the fatlighter, and she was grateful for it. She had used the last of hers to start the fire she had going by then. I walked on and checked out a little hammock island. Here are some knife pics. No scrappers today, all folders. Here is my EDC the SR Rat Trap. My new yellow Victorinox OHT. And the CS Rajah II. The Maxpedition Jumbo Versi pack rides so well, I hardly noticed it. Awesome story and great pics. That tells me more about the bag then anything else. The fact that it rides well and is modular has sold me on it. Where should I get mine?

I know I didn't do my story right. I don't have all the cool gadgets Bushman has, yet! He carries about three choppers, too. But the CS Rajah 2 and The Max Jumbo sure did the job today. Both fine pieces of gear, Taiwan made or not!

These are new to me. Whats the difference between the Fatboy and the Jumbo? I also see mention of left or right side carry,do they have a different model for each side? I gues an important question for me as well is Is there enough room on the strap to put a sheath on? It "looks" like you have one mounted there Bushman5?
I have a few ATS pouches that probably could work with this setup. Might have to give this some serious thought for short hikes and even "town trips" while we are car camping, to carry a few items and have room for souveniers.

That area where Vic lives is a survivalist heaven! Except in summer he says.
Fatboy is smaller, most go with jumbo. Maybe a small fixed blade on the strap. Large one on the belt via Rainwalker! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

That's one of the things I like most about this pack, it fits me. I also weigh about 300 lbs. INFI is only available in Busse Combat knives.
Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

im a really big dude. 300+. if i put one of these things on without someone home, or a spotter and im gonna get choked out? I also weigh around 300 and mine fits just fine too. If you want a little more strap room, you can add a Janus extension pouch.

They are available in 9 different colors now for those who don't want to look tactical and there is an extention if you feel like you need it. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=394

The Jumbo Versipack says it will carry a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle.
Will it hold a standard 38 oz. Guyot bottle?

Will it hold a standard 38 oz. Guyot bottle? That's only 4 more ounces. I don't think it would hold a much bigger bottle. But I'm working on a solution now.

Way to go Vic, stir it up! Was there a series of uncontrollable stabbings or destruction of landscape to justify such rules?
I was at a camp not too long ago and a few of the guys decided to test our knives on an old dead stump. We beat on it for quite some time and used what we could for the fire. The ranger didn't seem to mind at all.

Got my bag! You guys were right, AGAIN! I have assimilated, my Jansport does feel a bit flimsy now. Perfect size and fit, all around exactly what I didn't know I needed. Thanks Dogs! Btw, can you tell what my favorite color is? I had wondered about how my .45 would sit and feel. It is surprisingly comfy!

Thanks again. I'm waiting for that Machete coat, got some Trams on the way. I also want some of the add-on pouches for the bag. The wrap I learned here at the Yard, from a DotD thread, I find it comfy but I'll update once I really put it to use.
I'd like to see your collection Jeff, curious about which bags for what. This one is perfect for small trips, I've got one scheduled in a week. Testing time!

Obama saw your post Vic, sorry, he's with the park: funniest thing i've seen all day. i've got 2 of these regular versipacks.i've had'em for 2-3 years now.one of them pulls duty as a BOB/PSK in my trunk.i like that i can wear it over the shoulder or on my hip with its waist and thigh strap.VERSATILE is the word. OLD PIC. anything much bigger than that and i prefer a small pack like the 2 on the right here.CSM GEAR ASSAULT PACK & KIFARU E&E PACK. when i dont need versatility or the added room i prefer a fanny pack over something over the waist.for me it stays out of the way more and is more secure.CSM GEAR FANNY PACK this isnt what it was really made for but i really like how it works for over the shoulder carry.i little more open space if needed.a spec-ops brand S.O.B. {soldiers optimized butt pack} next to my countycomm pack that fell apart.

i like it a lot although i only own 2 pieces of gear from him.i liked the fanny pack he makes so much i bought a second.no frills,no BS and top notch quality.think of CSM as the mom and pop version of tactical nylon and i happen to have an article on here CSM GEAR that i kept years ago, along with other manufacturers.
the company is owned and the gear made by a guy named Retired Navy Chief Mike McMillan.iy says he was a corpsman with recon marines and ended up as chief CQB instructor at the marine corps. spec-ops training group and served from 1982-2004.
thats when he opened up shop in his garage next to the navy special warfare base.
apparently CSM stands for "Celar Silens Mortalis" which means "swift, silent, deadly" which according to them is the motto of the recon community. i never knew that.
in mikes own words ......
"most of my gear is very, very simple.i try and keep it that way.i'll give you an example.the U.S. Customs Dept. just bought a bunch of slings and every sling came with a DVD on how to mount it on their weapons.to me,thats retarded.the operator has enough to think about without having to think about how to put on his gear.if you need a DVD to tell you how to mount a sling...."
so basically its a small shop run by him and his wife only and most of his work is for other troops but he does sell to the public.i always like supporting the mom and pop type outfits whether it be knives, nylon or the local pharmacy.
probably more info than you wanted or where prepared for but like i said i had the article laying around so......

Mike's a GREAT guy, hooked me up MANY times. He likes to keep it simple. Tried talking him into dropping the outside pouch off his aid bag and adding MOLLE. Idea kind of died off. They do run a family business and everything is really friendly.

WOW! it has been a LONG time.
just got internet back.
N1. hows the kifaru treating you? last I heard you had some problems with it. (yeah it really has been a while)
so the jumbo really is that good huh?
I got a maratac range bag from countycoom and LOVE it. but I feel I need something smaller and easier to carry.
Also, (I know N1 said they were limited run) I've been interested in the spec-ops SOB from the moment I saw it. I wonder if I could find one of them around.
<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> it's good to be back.

Mine: These were the main considerations for choosing this specific bag: - Very durable and well made - Not too expensive - Compact enough to prevent overloading with “nice to have” items - Large enough to contain comprehensive list of field and medical supplies - Wide, padded, adjustable and comfortable strap - Has a 32oz/1L water bottle side pouch that will take my Guyot Designed stainless steel canteen and cup - Sling type shoulder bag allows quick access to contents without having to remove the bag (unlike backpack) - Can be worn left or right sided - Can be fixed to the belt while slung to ensure secure fit when running/climbing - Has a separate concealment pouch for handgun if required - Pouches are zipper type and not Velcro, I hate Velcro - Can be carried inside or on top of a larger backpack. For now, I have divided the kit into 3 parts: 1. Yellow Pelican 1040 case (medical supplies) 2. Blue Pelican 1040 case (field supplies) 3. Assorted extras like paracord, binoculars, tube vaults, etc. It is possible to take the whole bag or just one of the Pelican cases, depending on the need. Inside the bag (In columns from left to right): 1. Tru-Nord brass pin-on compass - not pictured (pinned to carry strap for easy reference) 2. Guyot Stainless Steel Water Bottle and Cup 3. 2 X Soft cotton cloths. 4. 2 Trash bags of the strong flexible type. This is, obviously, for trash and also could be used for shelter construction, makeshift ponchos or many other tasks. 5. Flashlight - Romisen RC-N3 Q5. 6. Wow that is very organized, how did you shrink those bottles down? I can't get mine very small. You rub them with the sweat taken off a North-Hungarian virgin's thighs. But you have to do this during a full moon on the Norwegian month of Hoor-Angliahacha, between 1 am and 2 am. Or, you could go here: http://www.countycomm.com/tubevault.htm, but it's much less fun <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

EMF,
as far as i know the SOB isnt a limited run.you may be thinking of the ALICE type pack they did.
the SOB is great and leaps and bounds above the maratec, countycomm bags.mine fell apart.i only wish the SOB had some interior pockets or organizers.the inside is all yellow though so you can find stuff in there instead of it being a black hole.
as far as the kifaru.it was the zulu i had trouble with and it has something to do with the built in,adjustable aluminum frame.i think it just needs some tweeking.unfortunately i didnt realize that until i was a few miles from the car.havnt taken a trip yet where i need that much pack but now that warmer weather is coming the time is ripe.
as far as my other kifarus no problems.i use the E&E pack absolutely every single day,no fail and take it to work and the X-RAY pack is superb.i only run into problems when i stuff 70 pounds of gear in the zulu.its almost expected.
i just checked the kifaru web-site and it looks like a whole lot has changed.gonna do some studdying on their "next generation" of gear.

I suppose I am obligated to buy one now that I have read this thread. I have been using the fanny pack off the top of my kelty coyote pack daily for several years, but have been wanting to upgrade.
Who has these on the cheap....or is there such a thing.

oh wow. I must have been mistaken then.
I just rdered a maxpedition jumbo though. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
still might get a SOB sometime though.
My maratac bag is the more expensive one though. really well built and has a ton of awesome features.
It's almost 1000 cu" though so it's way too much for casual carrying.

great kit gideon. I miss my jumbo pak. I sold mine to Zero Nine when I got the collosus. I'm not a big fan of the collosus. it's not as big as it seems, especially when you count in the foldover top of the jumbo.

I was on the maxpedition site last night trying to tempt myself into picking up a new jumbo. I like the new colors they have out, especially the two tone ones. I was suprised to see an orange one as well.
temptation growing....

Still no feedback on a Sitka? anyone? Checked it out on their site, kind of looks like the idea they were going for on the last aid bag I received.
Bush, was always told one is none two is one, but there are "backups" and then there are "spares" so.. there's your three? And that reminds me - 15 lbs of shiite in a 5 lb bag, sound familiar?

speaking of wich I'm getting good use of my RPG (thank you) and recently got another golok and a cadanian special.
Love those barkies. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />
I'm actually starting to enjoy NJ. the pine barrens are pretty cool. very nice to have our own little patch of woods. (actually its the biggest undeveloped patch from boston down to virgina I think)
I like that we get out on a lot of trips for the environmental club. should be fun.

The trip went great. I packed my lunch as well as some nice school allowed items and took the fellow dogs advice and all went well. We walked about 6 miles and the Jumbo was very comfy. I'm happy with how much it can hold and how I've packed it. (idk if I should post some pics or not) It's kind of "low cost" but it def. works.
I'll probably get a pelican case though, because I hear they're awesome and they would help me be better organized. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

5. Flashlight - Romisen RC-N3 Q5. 6. Fixed Blade Knives (BRKT piggyback sheath system): a. Large - Bark River Knife & Tool Canadian Camp Knife (A2 High Carbon Tool Steel, 6.5” blade) b. Small - Bark River Knife & Tool Mikro Canadian II (12C27 Stainless Steel, 1.75” blade) c. Ferrocerium rod with striker and small waterproof pill tube with 2 cotton balls and Vaseline 7. Flexible high grip gloves 8. Blue 1040 Pelican case for field supplies 9. 50 Feet of 550 paracord whose uses are too numerous to list here. Probably one of the most important items in the kit. 10. Eclipse tin container with 5 tea bags and packets of sugar 11. Cheap magnifying glass which offers useful capabilities: - Assistance in removing small objects like splinters and objects in eye, etc. - Making fire 12.Small binoculars 13. Leatherman Wave Multi Tool 14. Clear ziplock plastic bags 15. Energy bars and some lollypops 16. Field Knife-Sharpening kit: a. Altoids tin container with: i. 2 pieces of leather glued to each side: ii. One side with black compound iii. The other side with green compound iv. Also some 400 and 800 grit strips of sandpaper for treating nicks and dents (pull tightly over tin lid and clamp lid down for secure fix). b. Lansky Mineral Oil for blade maintenance and rust prevention 17. Yellow 1040 Pelican Case for medical Supplies 18. 4 Tube Vaults: a. One with Cotton balls b. One with Vaseline. This is my base for starting emergency fires. Just rub the Vaseline into the cotton ball and it takes spark from the flint very well. Burns for 2-3 minutes and even lights when damp. Obviously works with matches and lighter as well. c. Assortment of headache medicines, antacids and anti-histamine and some cotton balls to keep everything secure. d. 2 Spare AAA batteries for flashlight and some small cable ties 19. 4 Waterproof match containers: a. Small piece of paper with pencil & some duct tape b. Soft lens-cloth c. Matches d. Small party candles (wind proof, self re-light type) 20. Additional, larger cable ties 21. Emergency Survival & Medical pocketbook (not shown in photograph)
Yellow 1040 Pelican Case (In columns from left to right):1. 2 Disposable hooded ponchos. 2. Benadryl 3. Toothpaste 4. Toothbrush 5. Yellow Glow Stick 6. Lip balm 7. Anti diarrhea tablets 8. Eye ointment 9. Alcohol pads 10. Sting relief pads 11. Small Band Aids 12. Large Band Aids 13. Disinfectant wipes 14. Gauze dressing 15. Neo Sporin 16. General adhesive bandage Blue 1040 Pelican Case (In columns from left to right):1. Fishing Line 2. Fishing weights 3. Fishing hooks 4. Widgy Pry Bar 5. Spare cable key rings 6. Duck tape 7. SERE pocket saw 8. Pocket straight razor 9. Blue Glow Stick 10. Cable key ring with: 11. Safety pins 12. Can opener 13. Tick and splinter tweezers 14. Mini grappling hook (Don’t ask…) 15. Whistle 16. Sharpening stone 17. Small LED light 18. Button Compass 19. Signal Mirror 20. Fire Steel and striker 21. Spare key ring 22. Emergency blanket The knives Gideon, Do you ever have any trouble with dirt or mud with that color, I know it's an unusual question. My wife was wondering because I got her the khaki foilage but we also like the khaki plain. So I though I would ask someone who has one. It might also be a diaper bag! Well, mine doesn't look as ortganized compared to Gideon's at all, but it was all readily available to me and cheap. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> here it goes... sorry for the not so great pics and bad lighting... I tried to make the pics look decent. the main puch holds a ziplock bag with various items, a 1050 pelican case and some other loose items. inside the ziplock bag is a powdered gatorade packet, a garbage bag, some chicken and beef bullion cubes, a slimjim, (normally some small packs of jerkeyu and some cliff bars too) a poncho, a powdered hot chocholate, and instant oatmeal and a fishing kit. Inside the pelican is my FAK set up... it only took about 10$ to put together and contains Asprin, Tylennol, antiseptic wipes, alchohol swabs, cotton swabs, anti-acid, imodium, a small role of medical tape, some wire w/ a saftey pin,(multiple uses) antibiotic ointment, small and large gauze pads, a cpr mask, different sized bandaids, butterfly closures, three 3x4 telfa pads, a lighter and some benadryl. inside the front puch is some twist ties, (not very useful, I'd like to get some zipties) sticky notes, a small pack of tissues, (could use for TP)a small piece of wet/dry paper, (400 grit) and my leatherman with bit kit. (more for urban uses) i didn't get a pic of the items in the side kit, sorry... it contains Duct tape, (wraped around an old school ID) a needle and thread, a lancet, an SAK, (soldier I think) a sharpie, pen, pencil, aluminum foil, a ferro rod, 25' of paracord and a small piece of fatwood. then in the very back I have my SYKC yardkeeper! Please feel free to give some suggestions... I've seen a ton of these kind of threads but it's hard to keep track of what I have and should add and whatnot. some things need to be upgraded, but I'm still working on it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

It's not how it looks, but how it works. It's also something that will evolve. Mine still has some niggles, so it might look different in a couple of months... Please feel free to give some suggestions... I've seen a ton of these kind of threads but it's hard to keep track of what I have and should add and whatnot.
some things need to be upgraded, but I'm still working on it. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> Didn't see a water carrier/canteen/bottle and something to boil water in. Perhaps you carry this separately. This is one of the main reasons I got the Jumbo - it has a water bottle pouch.

gideon, right now I just have a camelback water bottle that I always keep full of fresh water and also can be attached to the little clip on the maxpedition, so I can carry another bottle. I do need a cup though. thats one of those things that I forgot about... I looked into a SS cup that would fit in the waterbottle holder and will probably get one soon.
thanks. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I've been checking out the maxpedition bottle holder for quite some time now. http://twowolvesoutdoor.com/10X4bottleholder.htmIt'd be great for day hikes and I won't have to lug around my backpack, but I don't see a big problem with that either.

Im getting ready to order one of these Jumbo's. Question I have,I am right handed, should I order the bag to carry on the left? Is it fairly waterproof/resistant?
Right now I use a Black Diamond Bullet small Daypack for trips in the woods or town while camping. Holds a rainjacket, camera, and whatnot. What I like is it is comfortable with its 2 straps on the back, what I dont is you have to take it off, then unzip the clamshell flap to get anything out of it. Not really designed to go in and out of often.
Hopefully the Jumbo will be what I am looking for. Thanks.

I got the Colossus because it's symmetrical and I can carry either way without there being a difference. Yeah I miss out on the bottle holder, but I use mine for more urban (man purse to work) use than hiking. I've had it a year and love it.

I wish I had it back. I miss the water bottle holder, but also i don't think it's that much bigger that the jumbo. The advantage the jumbo has (IMHO) is the foldover top. if you need to expand it up or let something poke out you can. with the colossus it either fits, or it doesn't.

You're exactly right, and their website is a little misleading... "For those who need something larger than their Jumbo™, we now offer the COLOSSUS™ Versipack™..." It really isn't that much bigger, if at all. I used to carry a Timbuk2 bag as my EDC but it didn't hold my gun very well and I wanted something smaller. There are also times when I wish I could pack around a full sized notebook, but it's a small trade at this point. Hey Bushman....Great gear -up with the Max/FB. I've used Maxpedition products for 5yrs now, and have found them the most durable, handy and adaptable gear made. I've used my Thermites in Afgan/Iraq and Katrina. I carry the Condor and the Remora daily now. Your kit is very similar to mine in content...Where's the duct tape?? Super Glue and napkins are handy. Here in FLA. we are preparing for Hurricane season....I work with USAR/D-MORT and are on standby 1May. Love chasing the storms. Anyway thanks for the Maxped gear focus.

I've never seen a Jumbo, so I can't compare it, but my Colossus works great for me. I too wanted the water bottle holder, so I picked up on3 of their add on attachments. Even with a full bottle of water, my G27 w/ spare mag, a Kershaw JYD and Muk on it, plus assorted other odds and ends, it's still very wearable for quick day hikes. ok, I posted this in the pygmy falcon thread but will post here as well, as it seems to relate to both threads. Here goes.
Question? Has anybody had any experience with the maxpedition malaga? I like the pygmy, but am really looking for a single strap carry-all in a size bigger than the Jumbo but less than the pygmy. The Malaga seems to POSSIBLY fit the bill. I would like to have the bag hang on my back or on the left side, leaving my strong (right) side uncluttered.

I live in Canada, we are (political rant withheld) not allowed basic freedoms and choices, in regards to handguns, esp Every Day Carry. It is extremely rare that a tax slave, oops "citizen" will be granted a licence for carrying a handgun, even then its restricted to wilderness. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbdn.gif" alt="" />

I know this thread hasn’t received a post in a while. I tried to post to it right after I joined this site, but I took too long and got kicked out without it being posted.
Anyway, I’ll give my inputs on the Jumbo.
In my opinion, it carries well whether you put it on the intended shoulder or on the opposite shoulder. It is better on the shoulder for which intended, but still carries very well for me on the other shoulder. The concealed carry pocket’s zipper has only one slider, which might be an access issue for some who might want to swap it back and forth between shoulders.
I carry mine mainly as a “daypack” for hunting, fishing, and trapping. The best benefit of this type of pack is quick access to frequently needed contents without removing it like I would have to do with a two-strap backpack. Instead of using the Velcro attachment on the back of the pack to attach to the belt holding up my pants, I use a ¾” nylon strap with quick release buckle. This allows me to carry it in the rear (out of the way while walking), keep it stabilized while running (or jumping, climbing, crossing fences, crawling, or bending over), and swing it to the front without unhooking it from my real belt.
A paracord loop (or two – one for each row of webbing at the base of the shoulder strap above the water bottle pouch) carries a tomahawk very well for me. (NOTE: I cover the edge of the tomahawk with a “slip-sleeve” from Rainwalker. It’s a great piece of kydex.)
The ROLLYPOLY® FOLDING DUMP POUCH is a great addition for those who tend to pick up things along the way.
If you buy directly from Maxpedition’s website, new colors have recently become available, but I have not yet seen them on other retailer’s websites.

I just purchased a Maxpedition Vulture II with some accessories like the CCW holster and some D-rings...I love it so far. I just need to figure out how to pack it like Gideon so I can get to everything easily. Also thought the red zipper tag for first aide was a cool idea. I'm still trying to figure out what I should put in this pack....? I have quite a long list and I'm slowly widdling it down. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I got a Jumbo S in foilage green a few weeks back in trade for 4 boxs of 9mm ammo. I think I did ok even though this is not my favorite color. I have taken the pack on one little walk and liked it very much. I wish the bottle mesh was larger so it could accept a bigger bottle of water but I have a few different camel-backs that will work for that. I will try to get some pics of my setup this weekend. I have enough first aide supplies to make it through a few days, two MRE's broke down out of their original pouch, firestarting materials, compass, Gerber tree saw, fixed blde soon to e replaced by a SY knife, a folding knife, a couple speed loaders of .357 mag, my S&W 66 Comp F revolver in the CCW area (no holster), purification tabs, sewing kit, a small DMT diamond bar, a pack of cards, para cord, duct tape, electrical tape, some meds for infection nd so forth, and a few other things I forgot. Now, this is packed tight and is not real light but I would rather have and not need than need and not have.
Things that I would like to get/change--better containment of supplies, a CCW holster for the CCW area, read para area for the first aide pouch, attach my SOG hawk to it, get a roll pouch, and redifine what I really need since this is a day pack more than a few days pack. Oh yeah, I like the idea of the independent carry strap as a waist belt.
Does anyone know if these packs can be dyed a different color? The foilage green is not my favorite but black screams "tactical" to me so I guess I should just leave it alone.

I got a Foilage Khaki witch is a bit more green IMO than I care for. In regards to dyeing it , I think you are better off trying to trade it. They do have a CC piece that fits in the pocket. I haven't looked at it in person yet though.

Foilage green is not that bad, it isn't too "tactical", camo doesn't scream to non-gunners/etc., but it does kinda stay with the outdoors color theme. But in OK, green is only a few weeks out of the year--summer, one week of fall, winter, one week of spring, and then summer all over again LOL.

I got a Jumbo S, opposite shoulder,,the thinking was CCW would be on right side, other things would be on off side. I sure wouldn't want a yank and run to take my pistol. I carry it to work everyday with thermos, water bottle, light, other gizmos. I really like it. I bought the inside holster but put other things in it. They are made well.

Ok, so here's my dilemma now... Leapers UTG has just released a knock-off of the "Jumbo". Check it out here.Their website doesn't give as many specifics as Maxped does, but it looks exactly the same... At 1/3 the cost! Cheaper Than Dirt has them with a couple short (but positive) reviews here.Maybe the nylon isn't as thick or it's not coated like the Maxped stuff is. I have a Condor EMT pouch I bought for my brother-in-law and even though it's nice, it's not as nice as the Maxped pouches. This wouldn't be a bag I'd carry every day like my Colossus, it's just for short day hikes. But I would like it to be durable. I have several Maxpedition products so I know they make great stuff. But is it justifiable to spend three times the price for brand name? Arrgh! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/banghead.gif" alt="" /> Anyone used or seen one of these "knock-offs"? Could use some thoughts.

This wouldn't be an issue if it were 10 or 20 bucks cheaper.
But a third of the cost?
I could get a Griptilian with what I saved.
Not trying to argue your point bro, just vocalizing the battle in my head right now.
Thanks for the advice. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

I can see what you are saying about the not so frequent use, and if you keep a good eye on it with a check before you start out I can see where it might be justified. However, take into consideration if it fails on you at the wrong time--would that 1/3 more paid be worth it?

I'd go with the less expensive one. Here's my logic... I have a thin nylon duffle bag with a basic handle system that I got when I was around 10 years old (I am 40 now). I have stuffed it full of everything from clothes, books, rocks, guns & ammo, groceries, even fish & game... I've thrown it in the trunk of cars, in the back of trucks, it's been on pontoon plane trips, been dropped, kicked, sat on, slept on etc... and it is still usable. When in this lifetime are you going to be in a situation where your bag puts you in a life or death situation ??? Order the bag and if's it bad quality send it back.

I'll order one with you. My gun range bag right now is a cheap bag I got at a company meeting. It does the trick but I am sure my boss would flip if he knew I was advertising my very "green" minded companies image at the gun range <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hmmm, it does look pretty good. You can find a deal on MaxPeds if you keep your eyes open. I have a Fatboy & Jumbo, and I got them both on eBay for like $40 & $50. A week ago I saw another one on eBay with a buy it now of $40 IIRC. I might have bought it, but I'm low on funds right now.

I like all of my Maxpedition gear, especially my Jumbos and Pygmy Falcons. However, I dislike the lack of two sliders for several pockets on each pack/bag. I am a fan of double sliders, and would like for more (almost ALL) of their pockets to include them.

I just read your post of the moped burgler.WOW.I wasn't here in june so I didn't see it then.Is the DA still in jail? Way to be prepared.Ya just never know. Yes. We testified at his probation hearing. Last info we got was in Nov. I think. It said there was a pre-trial conference, and we weren't required to attend. I just checked his status online and it said 7-13-09 he was sentenced to 20 years for burglary (among lesser crimes) but it says his earliest possible release date is 10-31-10. I dunno how they figure that! 20 years gets you one year??? Maybe that was for violating his probation, and they haven't done the new trial yet, I dunno... <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
