Ruger 10/22 was my first rifle.
Great gun, never had problems with it.
Unfortunately sold it 20 years ago and never
got a replacement.
City living sucks for an outdoors type person.

The 22 needs to be first. If you get something else later, that's fine, but the lowly 22 is the true working man's rifle. It can be used for pest control, small game hunting and even deer hunting in a survival emergency. I have a friend who used a 22 Anschutz for "discreet" deer hunting. One shot to the head and they all dropped like a stone using quiet standard velocity match ammo. If you get a 10/22, while not recommended by experts, it can be quite a potent self or home defense weapon. You can get 25 or 30 rd mags for it. Lots of cheap firepower that is deadly at close range.

Really? He dropped deer with a 22?? Good lord, how far out?

My dad loved his anschutz...

Head shot with a .22lr can drop a deer.

+ 1 on the 10/22. It's one of my favorites to shoot..

I've also got it's "little brother". I like the 10/22 much, much more...but it's still a blast to shoot as well.

dtbc, that is two fine looking firearms. I have thought about getting a Charger for short range p-dog and other hunting. What type of groups are you getting with it?

thanks.....With CCI min-mags..I'm getting about an inch at 30 yards with one of the Bass Pro red-dots. I may switch out the Nikon scope from the 10/22 and see what I can get at 50

I have seen so many variations on the 10/22, Ruger ought to just sell the receivers by themselves! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Looks good, Simon.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Thanks for the update. If I ed up with a Charger I was thinking of a 2-7x pistol scope and have a red dot for walking hunting.

To be honest, I have enjoyed shooting rimfires lately. Brings back good memories.
