That might be a long wait, but I imagine voice to text (which already exists) will get good enough and cheap enough, within a few years.

i was amazed at how well my iphone could understand my speech. i remember when computer programs had to learn and the sucked pretty bad at it. also the equipment sucked...

well multi touch screens seem to be where most stuff is headed. i expect most devices will lose the buttons for multi touch lcd panels pretty soon.

My ex girlfriend's friend/housemate wrote the software for some voice control system for cars (telling the car to turn on the air conditioner, telling it which MP3 to play, etc). It worked decently. It was pretty neato.

I've been using Palm phones with both touch screen and keyboard for about 8 years, now. Even with a touch screen, a keyboard is nice – even a mini keyboard.

had a full keyboard on my last phone. i thought i was going to miss going to the iphone. turns out i miss it just a little bit but the iphone is not all that bad. just that the keys now eat up too much real estate on your screen.

one pretty big purchase i was supposed to make last month has a 15" touch monitor built into it. works great with the software to access virtual buttons, sliders, and knobs in many of the programs.

guess i'm going to bail. got up much earlier in morning than usual and can tell.
