aint Obamas AmeriKa wonderful/......

Oh give me a freaking break - zero tolerance policies and school knee-jerk reactions were around long before Obama became president. In fact, the biggest turning point in these schools freaking out about "weapons" was after the Columbine massacre. (deleted incorrect statement about when it happened)

Blaming the actions of overzealous school administrators on the president is downright stupid, I'm sorry to say. Don't let partisan politics blind you to reality.

Edit: I fact checked myself (something the major news organizations that feed you your opinions never do), and I was wrong - Columbine was before Bush took office. Mea culpa.

It's still dumb to blame Obama for this.

MM is correct, but the Zero Tolerance stuff goes back to the early '90s when the gang and drug wars were getting out of hand at and on school campuses.

Yeah, the ZT has been around a while, but it didn't spread to the quiet suburban and country schools until the freakouts in the late 90s and early 2000s. Some of the worst of these policies were really cemented during the second Bush administration, and their precursors happened during the Reagan, Bush Sr, and Clinton stints in office. To blame any of it on those presidents is ludicrous.

I carried a swiss army knife at school, and many had rifles in gun racks in the backs of their pickups, and no one thought anything of it. Man have the times changed.

Peasy and CBC:

Right now my wife us using an Olympus SP570 UZ with a 20 x OPTICAL zoom. She uses very few of the functions of the camera. She takes animal pictures from the Jeep at Mingo National Wildlife Refuge here in S.E. Missouri. She gets good pictures from it, nothing wrong with it but she has always wanted a cannon. She does not think she could hold a Digital SLR steady enough for some shots, plus the lenses are not cheap. I saw where Cannon has came out with a new 20 power zoom camera for about $400.00. THAT is within our range. My question is this... Based upon what I said above, would the Cannon do better, and be a better camera than the Olympus. Remember, nothing fancy or trick about her picture taking, she just wants to be able to reach out and get the picture w/out shake.

Thanks
Randy

The Canon Sx20is will do the trick. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The only thing I don't like about it, is the fact that it takes AA batteries.

Enjoy every sandwich.

Zero Tolerance,

Its funny that mainstream media fails to report on law abiding students who stopped criminal acts because they were violating blanket school policies.
