Howdy folks! It's Christmas here so I thought I would share what I've done with some of my gifts.

First, there was this tree. It was only two days dead. Mesquite is the devil.

So, Gerber hatchet vs CS Machete vs SY Dogfather. Note: Machete has HD magic.

Tree: Mesquite, 5" of Hell. Try it. I dare you.
Times: Gerber = 2:20; Machete = 2:15; DDF = 2:30 (fatigue may have played a role)

DISCLAIMER: NOT A PROFESSIONAL CHOP OFF. Just for kicks from JYD #66.

Onto the Christmas presents:

Rainwalker goodness. Another prototype: The Quick Detach Dangler.
Amazing artwork, can you tell it's mine <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> ? Btw, the Reg sheath is spectacular.

Rainwalker belt, super bueno, proto sheath for Muk and masterwork from Buy Brown for my S5. Oh, and I LOVE the Vex!

That's it for now. Waki on the way. Feels good going through a tough tree.
I highly recommend it. The blades were pretty much free of wear afterwards.
Batoning is a different story, reserved for later...

I have never chopped Mesquite wood but have cooked with it. It looks pretty tough, Art. Over 20 minutes to chop through 5"? Maple isn't that hard. Some liveoak is. Looks like your collection of choppers did the job! Nice sheaths, too.

Feliz Navidad.

Horned, dangerous, and off my medication.

Jes, dey did.(spanglish)

20 minutes!?! I'm not that bad, lol. That was 2 minutes and whatever seconds.
Again, batoning is a whole different story.

Nice review. That mesquite wood must really be hard.

Nice post. Is your Savage a S.B.R. or does it have some sort of folding stock? Very cool either way but surprising for S. Cal.

For the Gerber, there is an angle between the edge and the rest of the head. It will be much more efficient if you file or grind it off.

Something else that doesn't help:

Getting up at 4:30 in the morning to go shooting at 6:30 for about 3-4 hours.
Returning home and beginning a chop-off (and forbidden to mention stuff) with 105f heat.
I probably drank 2-3 gallons of water + electrolytes.

As for the Mesquite:

Density = Very high
Hardness= Hard, difficult to dent
Specific Gravity= Extremely high, .80
Weight= Very heavy
It is very fibrous. The grain turns, twists, winds, wanders, rambles, and corkscrews. Great for barbeque's though.

Yeah, I need to re-profile the hatchet. I was actually planning on buying one of Brian A's. He does gorgeous work.

It is the LE 110fp(w/out muzzlebrake). 25-06, 24" bull barrel.
Standard stock. Great accuracy.

Ha ha! I just noticed why you said that!
The camo does a good job, the stock is tucked in under the flap.

Vance, thanks! My Vex is pantless <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
All the other's have custom maker pants and he has cardboard.
Another pantless but gorgeous blade, The Snotpig RatClone with Sheephorn handles:
