I am looking at a Martin Cougar that a store is trying sell at clearance. It's a left handed bow (I am left handed) the store has had in stock for a couple of years the sticker says 465.00 they want to get it out the door for 199.00 Prices are in Canadian dollars. Is that a good deal on that particular bow or should I hold out for something different or better?

I want to get into Bow Hunting this will be something new for me. I also don't want to jump on the first thing that comes up but I have been reading good things about this bow. I realize too that it's not the latest and greatest but it will kill deer and other prey and that is my main concern.

Thats an older bow...seen some on ebay for round $100.00 - $140.00 for used. Is it your first bow? Does it come with sights, rest and arrows? How much are you willing to spend? I'd hold out for a PSE or Bowtech, but it might be a nice bow if its your first bow. Do they have Bass Pro or Cabelas near where you live? You can get some awesome package deals for around $300 - $350 if your willing to spend that much.

I have a Martin Cougar... 199 in Canadian would be around 180 USD... I paid more for it than that... but it was top of the line back then...It is a split limb...and does not have the reduction rate the new stuff does....Its a great bow... but I want a PSE ...they are the best... but expensive... and given the cougar price.. it is not only great starter bow but a real working horse.. you did not mention the draw ... mine is 70#... that is important in several realms... your strength...the reduction percent..and what you what to shoot....I hunt...I am a big man...70# is nothing to me.... except hold... a recurve at 70# would be tough on anyone... I can hold my martin for a good while because of a great let off (seems like it is 50%)....a recurve would tax me very quickly... The current trend is not split limb and the newer let offs are better....

Martin is a good bow..but old... I have had mine 20+ years...I am not a bow expert...and I have not done as much with it as I should have ... others may have better and more current info....

I stopped and got some more info on the bow it is a new 2007 cougar III 45-60 lb and doesn't come with anything. I am in a little rural town out in the middle of nowhere. The nearest stores to me that have a big selection is five and a half hours south of me.

I need to go back and look at the bow for my self the person that runs the dept there told me the info posted above. I was just looking at the Martin site and the cougar III was manufactured in 2004 and 2007 was the cougar c-4.

I didn't even thing Martin was still making bows. If it was a recent model like 2007 it may be a decent deal. Does it come with anything? Like sights, arrow and rests? Might be a nice deal for a first bow. If its fully equiped it may be a decent deal, all you need is arrows, broadheads, and you should be good to go. Can you order from Cabelas? If so they got some great package deals....here are a few.

I'm looking for a Mathews Drenalin LD. I've been using the Legacy but want to shoot fingers.

I only have 2. One is a compound lefty bow I bought for $5 at a flea market, and the other one is an older Fred Bear fiberglass bow (60's maybe?) I got for $10 at Goodwill.
