Last year at Christmas, I entered a contest over on Bladeforums. The premise
of the contest was to build an "all natural" winter shelter. I scouted around
and found a likely spot and proceeded to build a debris shelter.
This is a link to the contest for anyone who is a BF member.
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=698991The contest was supposed to have ended on New Years Day, but my entry was the
only one that qualified, so I asked that the contest be extended to provide for
others to have the opportunity to get in on it.
I think that it's set to go until the end of April now.
A couple of pictures when my wife and I were building it in December
The view from the back as you would be looking down the hill
Yesterday, we went back and visited my debris shelter to see how it looks now, almost a month after we finished it.
As you can see, all the snow is gone now. This is a view of the back of the shelter, as we were coming down the hill.
From the front with the door in place
Door removed and the inside was nice and dry

Arctic swans wintering on the river near the shelter

Them just swimming away and chattering at him. I didn't get a picture
of it, but he actually went into the water after them...hehe...
