What's great is that we don't have to wait 6 months to see the results! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I'm looking forward to it as well. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Me too. What about a TT Regulator compared to a SODLE? What is the weight differences between those two?

I did a 8" Aspen last fall with the SOD... It still gave me a little workout and that was after me sharpening it, but it improved the results 10 fold from when I first recieved it...even still the SOD has still been my choice as my main type of survival type blade stashed away with other gear ready for D-day ......I would imagine they would be similar in chopping using the Kenetic Energy scale. Speedxspeed x weight / 42xxxx. If the grindheight is different ..or further up (flatter) I'd give the edge to the regulator.... Even being made of different steels the SR77 has shown excellent results for me vs wood and really never had an issue with lots of wood so I think only geometry will be the only key player with the REG and SOD heads up challenge.

I do have both and a friend has a Camp Tramp but it will be a couple weeks before I can get away and do any test. Between school, state tournament, and me taking a trip to IL to pick my brother up there is no sun left.

(PS: Might be interesting to throw a Camp Tramp into that mix as well. I believe it weighs about 14.5 oz as well.)

Mine is 14.1 <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

I have a hypothesis...my SoDLE will outchop my TT Reg. Without weighing the two, my experience is that the SoD is 'blade-heavy' and it is one hell of a chopper for its size. I've had to sharpen both knives to get a better edge than as delivered. Hopefully, I can test, compare, and photograph in the very near future.

Will do. I am thinking of taking boyh on the trip to Chi-town in hopes my brothers place needs a trim before he leaves it.

Yep. MM's TT Reg is 14.25 oz. I can't remember what the SoD LE weighs, but I think it's a little heavier than the Camp Tramp.

My T/T Regulator weighs 14 ozs., my two SOD LE'S each weigh 14 ozs., and my Tan SOD weighs 16 ozs. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

So e are probably looking at weight/handle ratio differences between the two. Then we need to run the test again except the 2nd one first since it will be a fresh new day? Cold be a lot of fun!
