he had been staying at our parents house, because my brother and i couldn't take him with us when we moved from our house. i got to be with him over the easter holiday. and i got to be with him all this morning, but i had to leave to head back to the new house.

my parents took him to the vet and they recommended that it was his time to go. my dad stayed with him the whole way. it hit my dad hard.

my dad couln't make the phone call that the deed was done, he had to email me instead. i called about ten mintues after i got the email, got myself together and talked to my mother first, and we were both fighting to keep it together.

then i talked to my father which one of the hardest things to do as we both tried to keep it together.

My buds were 7-8 weeks old when I found them on the highway living off of roadkill. They are about 6 now but its going to kill me to outlive them.

that's my boy in my avatar. he's more photogenic and a total mamma's boy(ex-girlfriend). His littermate sister is Daddy's little girl :-) But I love both of them to death. I remember when I was maybe 6 and my parents had to put down our lab Cindy. It's one of the most miserable things that can happen in life. But better to have loved and lost...

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. I have outlived 3 dogs now and have completely broken down on each occasion...(I think it’s OK even for tougher guys than myself). After the loss of the last one I realize that I have come to measure my own life in "dog years". Each of these friends has defined a period of my existence over changing times and has served as a great companion. Time will help, fond memories will remain, and to a degree...those 10 years will now be defined by man's best friend.

Sorry to hear of this B52. Our Jack Russell Penny is gonna be 13 later on this year. She's been with us just over 12 and it will hit Patty and I BOTH hard, specially Patty. But she will always remain our little girl. As HE will ALWAYS be your fella!

I have been avoiding this thread because my old beagle Spud is fifteen and showing it. I found him in my field when he was just a small puppy looking like a cement block with legs. I nick-named him "Braveheart" as he was not afraid of anything, including my bulls, one of which weighed 2,000 pounds. I'm sure that this will be his last Spring, and I sure don't look forward to when his time comes.

52-I'm very sorry for your loss. Barney our Akita still walks with me, it has been 27 years that he is gone.. Darn! I really miss him.
