The first thing you need to know is 154CM is very hard steel.

And how!!

Took me 25 minutes to put a laser edge on one of mine...even with paper wheels. I used them to kind of slightly convex it and thin the edge just a bit.

Went pretty gingerly, but boy...it is some resilient stuff, takes a super good edge, and holds it almost forever.

Nice collection going there, R-C. I had the pleasure of sharpening one of the new Wiener Dogs today for a fellow dog. It's a lot like the Bird Dog, which I really like. It will take a super sharp edge, too.

Hey HD, I was planning on sharpening my WD next, did you use the same grits as you would for the Sr101??? Im curious since it is Stainless???? Do you still convex it or just improve the edge that is already there?

THANKS!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" />

The first thing you need to know is 154CM is very hard steel. You'll need an aggressive grit to set the new edge angle. I used 80 grit. Also, this steel can get hot fast, so have water nearby. I went 80 grit to 180 grit to 40 micron to 15 micron to 9 micron. All my edges are somewhat convex since I don't use the platen. The new edge was only slightly narrower in angle to the factory. The thing cuts like a laser. Don't drag the point all the way across the belt. Pull it away half way across and you will keep that fine point.

Oh how I love the Generosity around this place!!!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbup.gif" alt="" />

Thank you HD! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
