I've heard some pretty bad things about Chinese M14s, though mostly about Norincos. That polytech a pretty solid rifle?

saturday was the charlotte rifle and pistol club's battle rifle shoot that they have quarterly every year. if you guys ever venture over to the fal files, moses, runs the shoot and pretty much wins every event.

me and my brother the pitbulloflove made the shoot, and braved the heat and humidity and did pretty well for ourselves.

the shoot breaks down as the first event is dropping eight steel plates 8"x13" at 200 yards from the prone position, using any non optic battle rifle under a minute, fastest time wins. second event is drop three plates standing from 200 yards. third is bolt action drop 4 from the prone at 200 yards. fourth is a garand drop eight at 200 yards from prone. fifth event is three man team drop 24 at 200 yards. the final event is 300 yard sniper event, one shot, miss you're out, hit and move on until there's one man standing.

here's what the plates look like at 200 yards.

charlotte rifle and pistol shoot

btw my scrapyard tye-ins for this 1. used my wiener dog to open my battle pack of .308, 2. was wearing my scrapyard patch on my shooting jacket.

Wow that was some nice shooting. I loved the videos.

Thanks for sharing

the only knock with chinese m14s is they have a soft bolt, which could cause an out of battery experience most would like to forget.

otherwise they are as good as you can get u.s. wise on a standard m1a. the receiver is forged and the barrel is as good as anything save match grade. i had my bolt replaced and lapped, and it has been trouble free since.

of course once you change one chinese part you have to add another six u.s. made parts to make it legal. a long with the winchester bolt, i added a national matched reamed front site, a trw trigger group(which counts as three pieces), stock, and op rod.

922r compliance sucks doesn't it? It just adds to the overall cost of an already expensive rifle. Good to hear it's all squared away though. I had a friend who had an overpressure incident in a garand, almost lost an eye, and trashed a great looking rifle. I believe the culprit was a slam fire on a soft primer.

There are some great M14 smiths out there. I had a Poly that I regret trading off. It was worked over by Warbird in TX and I loved it. I do love the M14 platform but want to get a Para Fal again, and well a regular FAL for the heck of it.

i paid $200 cash for the rifle, and traded a egyptian fn49 i had $300 in for it. $50 for the national match front site, $100 the trigger group, $25 for the stock, $100 for the bolt, and $100 for the op-rod. plus i paid $50 for the bolt to be lapped to fit. all total i have $925 invested in the rifle. still cheaper than you can find most m1a's.

Yes sir and it is not a cast receiver. If I ever run across a Poly again for the right price I am snagging it for a project M14 rifle. I would love a LRB but can't justify the price for something quite like that--my pre-Clinton M1A does a great job as is.

That's not bad, I picked up my SA M1A for 1200, but I ended up with a Redfield Tracker scope and mount as well, used. I picked up the stock I have on it now for 15$ Stripped, and swapped the hardware from my walnut stock. The Smith Enterprises stuff ran me about 400$ total, but I'm going to purchase a Troy Industries Battlerail for it and sell of the SE scope mount. Hooray for spending money!

I picked up my Springfield for $875.

It's a preban (left SA Inc. in 5/80 as a bare receiver), has a SAK USGI NM barrel dated 1976 (gauges about "0" at the muzzle and throat, has TRW internals, NM sights, unitized, NM Flashider, all the bells & whistles came with a Springfield Gen III scope mount, a "Tasco" 3x9 (woo-hoo), a spare stock, 5 USGI mags, and a hardshell case.

Here she was on the day I brought her home-

After I got that scope off and found a stripper clip guide...

But back to the match...it's always a load of fun.

You should come if you get the chance. We've had participants from as far away a Texas!

Oh, have you seen my significant prize yet? No?
