So - Roman Rist - my favorite guitar builder. He's been around the block. Used to be partners w/ Peter "Max" Baranett who made the famous "Max" Les Paul replicas (Slash played one in the early days, along w/ a Derrig replica). Anyway, he's the man. I had him build a guitar for me last year, and I was able to trade for a second of his through the Guitar boards. Back in the 80s he was set up in LA, and was making some cutting edge super strats. CC Deville from Poison had Roman build 2 for him.
Anyway, I came across one online hanging out in the Hollywood Guitar Center and picked it up for a steal. One off custom finish, Bill Lawrence pickups (I peeked under the bridge pup - Bill signed it!), original Floyd Rose, etc. Roman did a top mounted locking nut, so it doesn't have holes drilled clear through the neck.
It is amazing. Virtually ZERO fret wear, 24 years later. The neck profile is great, thin but with nice shoulders. Oil finish on the neck.
Here are my 3 Rists - and a couple of the new (old) one:
It matches ACU camo quite well... 20 years ahead of its time!
