I have shot at people before, but then again they shot at me first. THAT releases me (in my mind) from any remnent of civility. Some folks think I'm crazy for thinking that way. But I tell them, IF THEY are stupid/mean enough to shoot at me, AND I have the means with me, I WILL defend myself because they have indicated they have put their lives in my hands to do with it as suits me. I'll agree with that, and even go one farther. I'll defend myself or anyone else that their life is in danger, and I'll do so with as much force is necessary. I don't carry a pistol to look cool.

I even carry to work. Have my Glock 19 sitting in my bag on my desk. I can't wear it on my belt because the Sheriff doesn't want us mistaken for deputies, but I have my hand on it when I walk out the door. Never know who's just been released from jail and may be waiting in the parking lot.

Shoot, I've used my pistol a couple times to put down deer hit by cars. Not exactly why I carry it, but glad I had it both times.
Got some venison out of the deal too...
