I like the looks of the recurve blade, the sweep is gracefull. The wider forepart of the blade looks like it would add to its chopping ability. Is a recurve any more difficult to sharpen than a straight blade (field sharpening?)? I like the yard guard, wondering if 7" is just enough that it won't get carried as much or maybe it chops like the DF carries like the S6?

As I see it, there are three advantages to the recurve:
1 They facilitate the draw cut by forcing the target into the edge.
2 They tend to hit a chopping target at a slight angle which concentrates the chopping pressure on a smaller area of the edge, giving deeper penetration.
3 More of the weight of the blade is forward, where a chopping impact would be.
Kukris are recurves, if you look carefully.
They are almost impossible to sharpen properly on a flat stone, but rods work well. It may chop somewhat better than an S6, but a 10" blade is going to be much more effective because of the additional weight and blade speed at the chopping area in the front of the blade.

Edited: There is one more thing: They really look cool.

As Corn Dog said, wait make it "H" not a "C"... As Horn Dog said, (yah that is right) you use rods to sharpen recurves the Spyderco sharpmaker dose just acout any edge style you can think of. I am thinking it will cary fine but any bigger and, it mught be obtrusive(?).

As I vaguely remember, the S6 is about 6.5" of blade vs. the new Mojos at 7".

With the additional length, the recurve, marginally wider blade width and the high saber grind on the Mojos, I expect them to have a slighty greater forward weight balance than the S6.

As H-D said, they look cool <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

They look awesome! I love Scrappers but they have not been the best looking blades. The Mutt is much better looking than the previous scrappers and the new recurves are almost beautiful.

The Guard IS a good-looking knife! I wonder if the nose (point) is actually as long as it looks in the picture ? <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I sharpen my Ranger RD9 recurve on a Spyderco Sharpmaker - works great.

Very hard to do in the field though!

I might look in to a smaller rod sharpener for the Yard Hook.

I've got a Lansky 'turnbox' sharpener that was cheap and is ok for field use. It's 2 medium ceramic sticks in a wooden box base, it's 'bushcrafty' and portable. It'd do recurves but is no match at all for Lansky stone and clamp sharpening, (which of course won't work on recurves..).

Scrappy- you hit on my favourite prayer when ordering a Dan knife 'Oh Lord, please let this one be sharp'.. Sadly three for three so far in the blunt as a banana stakes. BUT buy a Dan recurve anyway they're cool!

All my scrappers have been sharp so far. I can't say that for all my knives.
