I watched some hickock shooting videos with him shooting slugs. He seemed to feel regular shotgun barrels are fine. I was impressed with what he could do. doubt I could do the same but I will give it a try I think.

I don't blame you Bill -- if I lived in B.C. I would tote a 12 gauge and probably my .44 mag. as well! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Modified is the only choke (besides full on a 12 guage I had for a while) I have used and thought it was a really good "middle of the road" way to go. NEVER felt myself at a disadvantage.

Bill you might also try "Express" sights. You know, a large bead up front and a V rear sight. On the Redhawk I had that is the sight setup I went to and loved it! And they are pretty fast as well.
I like express as well, I just find ghost ring a little better in low light.
I had express sights on a model 70, loved the gun.

Yeah the ring would be better in low light. Plus it would probably be stronger than a blade v sight.

I was wondering about those cheaper sxs's. you would something like that would be hard to mess up since it's been around for a while.

Touch wood I have only had one encounter where I thought I was in any real danger.
Most of the time summer camping if I bring a gun it is my 44 mag marlin.
It is usually locked up because kids are around, we only bring it out for target practice.

Truth be told the danger from bears is generally over stated.
