After you get comfortable with your shooting, start trying different brands and weights of ammo. Find one that you particular gun likes the best. You would probably be best to benchrest the gun for this test. But for normal "self defense" distances, out to say maybe 25-30 feet it's not all that critical. The searching for what your gun likes best is for precision and long distance shooting in my opinion.

Inside 25 feet, it won't matter, and if ever used in a defensive shooting it really wouldn't matter. Heart pounding, hands trembling, etc. Just getting a hit would be great in those circumstances for most shooters.
