Anyone have any thoughts on the XD subcompact 9mm vs the Taurus pt145 subcompact 45?

had the XD and it was nice. not sure why I dumped it. Not a huge fan of Taurus, but they make the smallest 45 I've found (at least that I can afford).

looking for a new concealed carry. Was thinking of a small 380--like the micro eagle or S&W Bodyguard--because they are so dang small and concealable.

but keep coming back to the issue of "does it have enough in the tank to put the BG on the ground?"

That and I've already got a 9 and a 45--one less to reload for <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

The XD's are great, I have a 4in V-10 ported 357 Sig with about 20k rounds through if and it still shoots like a dream. For carry though I'd probably go for the SA EMP, expensive but a great shooter.

When you get into smaller barrel length you start to loose a lot of ballistic performance and for a .45 ACP that's not going very fast to begin with this has a big effect. Recoil is also pretty harsh in short barrel 45's.

Reviews on the Taurus seem to indicate decent performance despite its 3.5" barrel.

Did they give numbers though?

For example, I have to take special consideration when selecting ammo because the porting on my gun reduces bullet speed by 200 FPS. May not seem like much but it can have its effects on expansion and penetration, important factors when trying to down the BG.
