I think I may pick up one or two of the Gen IV systems--considering they are about $60 for about 4,000 cubic inches of storage.

Sandpaper works very well but after a few times of restocking you could have had a quality set of stones.
From experience I will say this, save and buy the larger or better stones because you will then only buy once. I've bought many stones only to realize I should have waited and thought it through more. You want to be able to expand on what you have so as your skill grows so can your kit.
To start I would suggest (if you want diamonds) the C/F/EF diasharps in the 8x3 size. Would run you about $150.

I've got one RMD, one on the way and one RMDX. I wouldn't mind a third and/or fourth CG RMD. These are GREAT blades! Kinda want one for each of my kids <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> DT its crazy that you say that. I don't have any kids yet but me and the misses are fixing to start trying. That was the reason I wanted another one. I started collecting knives with my grandfather when I was a child and then grew up and have always been fond of a really good blade. After I ordered my first two RMDs with the intent of selling one because I wasn't sure which one I wanted to keep. I realized this would be an aawesome blade to give to a son if I'm lucky enough to have one one day and hopefully even two. Of course If not I could give one two my nephew and the busse kin knives hold there value so I'm not at a loss. What do you think amigo?

There is a lot of different options on the site. Are the ones you suggest the bench stones? Or is there a model number? Thanks afor taking the time to help me out.

I have the 8x3 benchstones aka diasharps. Not really a fan of the duosharps (pok-a-dot surface)
